Wednesday, August 27 - Oak Bay Obstacles

Mostly nonsense. Also riding bicycles inappropriate for off road terrain, off road; GIFs

Wednesday, August 27 - Oak Bay Obstacles

Post by Rolf »

Thinking of a little Oak Bay coastal explore for FarmCross tomorrow. For all aspiring cross racers: a few stairs, a few sharp and punchy climbs, and a little hard-pack sand?

Route could be a mix between this and this.

Low tide is around 8 a.m., so the beaches may be good to go.

I've only been away for fours days so far and except for Rolf's unwanted affections, I'm already missing my cyclocross buddies. Have fun tomorrow.

We'll be thinking of you Johnny T as we surf the big ones of Gonzales Beach.

Updated route plan.

As always, there are a few new treats in there, with options to extend the route, depending on how efficient we are (and how rideable the beaches may be.) Warning: everyone will get a little shouldering and stair practice!

Good for tiny cyclist arms:

404 on the updated route Cap'n. I'm amber on this one due to hosting company and needing to provide breakfast AM. The ride looks extremely cool; especially the actual granny-knot you tied around beacon hill and with the exception of the STUPID bit on the STUPID beach. (stickingouttongue emoji)

I have to lean to jump curbs and surf waves for this cyclecross thing?! Looking forward to Alan’s cycle surf demonstration.

No surf, but Alan got right in there! What an amazing morning for photos.

Dolly: I'm sorry I didn't fix the route link sooner to give you fair warning we wouldn't be coming up Shelbourne, comme toujours; I'm glad we eventually found you!

As fun and different as all the sand and stairs were (whose dumb idea was it to go up the Walbran steps?! ), I think I still prefer rides that flow.

See Johnny? You're not missing anything at all... :)
