Saturday sufferfest

Post by sskrobek »

Anyone interested in riding this Saturday’s sufferfest?? I was considering a 7 am start time instead of 6am. Usual location, cook st. Starbucks. If you are going please post a reply. I have hockey Friday night and don’t feel like 100-120km solo ride. Also the reason for the 1 hr later start time. If no takers will be riding the oak bay Saturday ride. 🤨

How much suffering is involved?
I don't want to be left out there like someone's puppet.
Ok, I'm in.

Hi Alan. We usually cover 100-120km, with hills on the back end of the ride. It’s A-2 pace, so the level of suffering is relative to each individual.

Thanks, Steve, but I'm tapering now for the Penticton Gran Fondo. Alan, BTW, is one of toughest SOB's I know. I'm sure he'll make it back no probs, and more than ready to drink free coffee.

I can attest for Alan's toughness. That black and white video you sent is just the tip of the iceberg.

Hey all. With apologies for trying to hijack your ride plan, Mr. Skrobek, how would all y'all feel about heading out Otter Point Road way? Claire and I just talked about doing that tomorrow—also with a 7:00 start—and we'd enjoy the company.

I like where this is headed. A 7am start with a lovely group of people. I am not very interested in riding the peninsula, hence the Otter Point idea. I was thinking we'd ride the Goose to Goldstream (via Wale) and ride the new parkway over to Sooke Rd. Then some Sooke highway (safer in numbers!) and back via Otter Point then Sooke Highway either all the way back or turn at Gillespie and ride the E Sooke route and thru Metchosin.

Looks like we'll find a crowd at CStSbx - yay! And if most people want to ride the regular route, enjoy! I will still grab Lund to join me for something a little less familiar.

Thinking ahead to riding on Saturday. Last week, we had an excellent crew of six out for the usual peninsula route but discussed the possibility of doing something different this coming week. I believe the tentative plan is to meet at Cook Sbx at 0600 for Otter Point (beyond Sooke). See above for my thoughts on a possible (hilly) return route. Open to options. I'm not certain on the distance - maybe 110 to 120, depending on the return?

Alan Cassels did splendidly last week. A model for us all!

I love the obb ride but am really bored of the peninsula. Let’s ride some damn hills. If I’m in town I’ll join you guys. I’m currently dealing with heart stuff so I may drop off the back. No need to be concerned. Mebve I’ll see you sat.

Are you going down to the states, Rob? What about Steve S? Be good to get a bit of a crowd out tomorrow for a bit of a different route.

Claire. I cancelled my ride to Portland but my heart is acting like a nervous squirrel right now. I don’t think I can do this ride with you guys. I’ll just sit on the couch , stare at the wall and feel sorry for myself instead.

An ablation is in order!

I'm in for Otter Pt. tomorrow, leaving at 6 from Starbucks. I do need to be back in town by 10:30ish. But Otter Pt. and back, by itself isn't much more than 90kms.

Hang in there Rob, you'll be back stronger than ever.

Distance .... I checked again. If we head out to Sooke via East Sooke (Metchosin Rd. ... Rocky Pt. Rd.... and Gillespie) then turn left on Sooke Rd. to Sooke and Otter Pt. ..... it's a 105km round trip from Esquimalt .... so about 115 from Cook St. return.
