Mostly nonsense. Also riding bicycles inappropriate for off road terrain, off road; GIFs

Tuesday, April 30 (Hills)

Post by JTyre »

Rolf's solo hill riding motivated me to do some of the same last Tuesday on my crossbike (B-train to Henderson/Cedar_Hill_Cross, Mount Tolmie x 2, Cedar Hill x 2, Peacock Hill x 2, Smith Hill, and Beacon Hill). Please join me for a peppy elevation romp without the need to advertise our patches.

To be clear, I am not at all competitive. My only objective here is have to Rolf, who *is* competitive but won't admit it, chase me up Wolf Hill this Saturday to the point of falling off his bike crying like a baby,

Translation from Banter to English:
"There will be a fairly high speed and hilly crossride starting at 6:05 am tomorrow (Tuesday) from the Oak Bay High parking lot and ending at about 7:30 am* at Moka House at Shoal Point."

The rest I can explain to you tomorrow, masby, as the story begins about 40,000 giphys ago.

*As for early departures, that's up to you friend.

:D much appreciated JT! I I'll find you at OBHS 0600. And yes. My curfew is not intended to cramp anyone's fun but mine.

Indeed, mashby, there is much to learn of the lingo, tomgifery, platonic love triangles, and the such.

Fortunately for you, JTyre is the most patient and gracious of tutors.

JT: I'm flattered you'll be sweating up hills tomorrow because you think training is required to really enjoy my suffering on Saturday.

But while I fully admit that I like to race people up little bumps like KGT, I long ago stopped trying to pace and beat you on anything over 30m of vertical. You boast the climbing triple threat: (1) the body of a prepubescent boy, (2) a crabon frame, and (3) some kinda crazy levitation juju.

p.s. my bum told me it's looking forward to a nice mellow FarmCross on Wednesday. 8)

Wednesday: there were several dog-walkers enjoying Mount Douglas' "bike free" trails last week when we rode through. Are there any unrestricted trails within 6am range?

Yes, many. To see those trails I suggest subscribing to trava feed. Occasionally, some networks necessitate shared connections, but because we usually ride in the winter and in the dark, encounters with other humanoids are rare and without incident.

Yes, unfortunately the earlier light brings out more trail-users and greater discretion is required. We discussed about a month ago staying clear of Mt. Doug. As these cross rides are organized through the forum, we represent the Club out there and it's imperative we stay off restricted trails.

But there are plenty of bike-friendly trails out there, Mark! Tomorrow I was thinking of dancing across High Quadra—something like this (maybe minus the foray into Broadmead and consequent Valewood hike-a-bike.)

It's worth repeating the proper etiquette when encountering pedestrians or joggers on any trail (whether a legitimate multi-user trail or those brief times we inadvertently hit restricted trails):
  1. announce your approach with bells, whistles, (or high-pitched shriek-y giggles if your name is Johnny Tyre);
  2. yield the right of way; and
  3. pass as widely as possible—ideally with a nod, a smile, a handshake/high-five, and a "Good Morning!/Afternoon!/Happy Hanukkah!"

Sorry, Mary. I waited for you this morning, but in the wrong place.

Rolf claims this is how you're feeling right now,

But we all know Rolf's a bit of a drama queen,

I thought maybe you set me up to twist in the wind when I didn't spot you JT. It turns out the 'C' group felt pretty good on the whole this morning. :D

Dropping people in favour of "training"?

...never forgive... forever and ever.

You and I are obviously in a bit of rough patch, Rolf. Do you think we'll ever get back to where we were?

John, my feeling this morning to you was along the lines of..."Save yourself! Because this ship is going down hard!"
I was a hurtin' unit from the first hill, and knew it was not going to improve. I usually think hills are a solitary thing, so no worries. But hot crap! Take a lesson from my experience that ten-ish days on the couch should not be considered a form of training. Sadly.
