Well, it's the end of the week so that means I'm getting really excited about a Cross Ride AND the weather forecast looks good for Sunday!!
I'd like to take a another crack at Hartland if there are any takers, Last week went fairly well but we missed the Thetis connection. If we keep along the West side of Hartland we can then more easily connect to Thetis. Meeting the friendly lady and cutting through hew backyard was nice and all but best not to plan that in advance. So the route would be:
I estimate about 50km. I've been assured that there are CXable trails on the west side of Hartland, but expect an adventure. Anyone with Hartland knowledge please share. I'll try to post a better map of the route.

That sounds awesome and I was just about to join in til I remembered that this weekend is easter sunday. No way can I skip the egg hunting....ever considered a late afternoon CX ride?
Hi Ron, the kids seem ok with my afternoon departure. They'll be in a chocolate coma by then anyway. I know a few of the CX friendly trails at the dump but I'll need to consult with someone with better navigational skills to get us through the Hartland to Thetis bit. Maybe we can bring Rolf by earpiece?
Most excellent Louise! I've put together a neat little route to get to the Hartland Parking Lot:
https://www.strava.com/routes/18280964 (Plotting routes is a strangely addictive activity- and now I really want a Garmin for turn-by-turn navigation assist)
Once there, we can use your know-how and a Trail Forks toe-tap to connect to Thetis. See you at 1:30pm!
Sounds good Ron. Going into Mt. Work from where you suggest means some grunty climbing on the regional trail but we can come down on the new skull trail which is fantastic, then back in on upper shock treatment to 2nd Ave- Kokanee Hwy - Two trees, also fun and challenging by CX bike. Then I think we'll end up on Madonna/North Trail (help me out here someone who knows better) and out on one of those roads that leads to Munn's. Somehow we'll get to thetis-ish.I might have consult the master navigator for some help with that part.
We will be joined by two friends of mine - Rob and Graham. Both did the cross fondo. Rob was not impressed so tmrw is our chance to prove to him that CX IS fun. Graham knows hartland like the back of his hand. We'll be in good hands, at least until we pop out somewhere on munn's. At which point we may have to call Rolf.
Graham and I conferred a bit on route and are thinking that your's might be unnecessarily grueling for egg-bellies. How about the route you planned but instead of viaduct we stay on the glendale trail to interurban rail trail - head onto prospect and up executive into the dump. From there we climb regional trail but just past pooh corner, steep and nasty but not long. Then the flow of skull, followed by all the other stuff I mentioned earlier. Graham will not get us lost.
Happy Easter, dudes! Hope you have a great ride. I'm really keen to explore South Prospect Lake Park someday.
But what's all this about invoking my name on losing your way? As constrained as we are by responsibilities and our predictable, hyper-structured lives at middle age, half the fun is getting lost! So when you don't know where you are, savour and revel—and then stumble about until you find something you recognize. I believe in you.
And remember to keep reminding L3 that lions are rarely spotted in Hartland/Thetis.

Friends, is it just me or is Rolf getting extra Zen on us these days?
I think he needs to get back on his crosswheels, ASAP.
