Nature Trails Society asked trail groups to speak today to the CRD board meeting about their strategic plan, in particular about working better with parks user groups. SIMBS, NTS, Dirty Gurlz Bike Club, Sooke Mtb Club, and the TS youth team spoke briefly in support of the idea that the community should be able to help with poorly designed, neglected and eroding parks trails.
It went better than expected. Unanimous vote in support by the CRD board before the end of the meeting.
"That the 2019-2022 Board Priorities document be amended at p. 12 (“Climate Action and Environmental Stewardship”), revising Initiative 2c to read as follows (adding the new language in green (here in caps cuz no green), deleting the language in red):
“Ensure appropriate funding for parks and trails infrastructure, improvements and maintenance by updating the Regional Parks Strategy with consideration to ecological, recreation and reconciliation principles, and land acquisition capacity, AND EXPANDED PARTNERSHIP WITH FIRST NATIONS AND PARKS USER GROUPS."
Might seem small, but it gives the Parks Committee a better mandate to ask staff to work better with groups like NTS.

Thanks for your continued advocacy for the improvement of multi-use trails and trail access, Lister. It's great for the young members of Tripleshot, as well as the young of heart members.
