L'Alpe is famous for skinny legs sweating up the resort road, but there's a downhill MTB race there every year called the Megavalanche where a mass start on a glacier descends 2,600 vertical metres through snowfields, crazy scree, gorgeous alpine singletrack, dodgy bridges, rivers, meadows, and eventually bermed forest runs, farm roads, and a village finish.
In this incredibly smooth GoPro footage of all 38:55 of the winning run, you can watch a forceful display of endurance and preternatural handling and listen to the desperate panting of a gifted athlete over the incessant drone of the camera-chopper. This guy eats boulders for breakfast! Fullscreen and headphones give the full experience—try to stay calm and not shred the armrests of your chair with your nails.
Now I really want to go ride...
