Rolf Aldag has some good advice there; but this Rolf says you can meet all your Training Rut problems by simply switching the channel.
  • Variety of effort (harder and easier)
  • Variety of post-ride food & drink
  • Variety of terrain ( intense climbs; ripping the flats; upper-body technical sections; grinding through sand; seated extended climbing etc.)
  • Thinking in terms of exploration and discovery v. time and distance
  • Riding with new, exciting (and much funnier) people
  • Naturally occurring "rest-rides" where the point is the cycling experience v. strictly physical training
That article is like a guerrilla ad for TSCX—where the psychological and the physical coexist in perfect harmony. :P
