Sunday, Sept. 16 - Thetis Funground

Mostly nonsense. Also riding bicycles inappropriate for off road terrain, off road; GIFs

Sunday, Sept. 16 - Thetis Funground

Post by Rolf »

Four weeks until we're at the start line of the unequalled Tripleshot CrossFondo 2018!

(A day that is giving Christmas a run for its money as the very best day of the year.)

Tomorrow's TSCX ride will take in various Thetis highlights, including some trails the Fondo hit in 2016 and 2017.

Times:
  • 7:15 a.m. Fort and Richmond;
  • 7:30 a.m. Switch Bridge;
  • approx. 10:15 a.m Fry's Bakery, Vic West.
Stats: 47.404 km; 792m ascending; 799m descending.

Here's a detailed map of our precise route:

Cross your fingers for a wet night and a dry morning. And if you haven't yet registered for the biggest Tripleshot event of the year, click that link and get on it—you'll have more fun than a pillowcase full of kittens!

Thanks for the reminder to register. I just did and noticed there is a cap at 300 riders. If you don't want to be disappointed, register now! Spread the word.

I’m as sick as an over-loved kitten just pulled out of a pillowcase and only fed candy. BUT I may try to draft behind you kindly gentemen tomorrow and see how I do.

(Its remarkable what happens when you get hypothermia from a ride where you over-exert yourself. This cold has sunk in deep!)

Rolf:

See you at Fort and Richmond. Coffee shop or corner? And what’s fender etiquette?

No fenders. I mean, how else will we get our daily dose of minerals??

Never have we been off the bike as much as we were this morning—largely due to a couple of wrong turns on my part. :oops: McKenzie Creek was a lovely hike, and it was fun clambering along massive, wet logs etc.; but next time I’d prefer to enjoy it without hauling a bike.

The flip side, I guess, was seeing a whole pile of new terrain, some of it truly beautiful.

Hiking up Scafe Hill from the east was also terribly gruelling—even if it let us hit Bellamy and the return Loop at warp speed.

Thanks for being such troopers and sticking it out. Hope coffee was dreamy. Next time: more flow!

What wrong turn? As I recall, the objective was for some prefondo fun, and that we got many times over.

It was a perfect hike in the deep dark woods of Dagobah.
This stuff doesn't just happens in movies, it happens in Thetis Lake Park,
where we ran across this little strange green guy in that deep, dark forest.
Who coulda known he can read me like a cheap paperback...
