I'd really like to do this ride but I'm am hoping by posting this that I can get a few "less speedy" folks to sign up too before I fully commit! :D

Penny, that looked like a yes to me, so I'm adding you to the list. Also, I'm in - might as well admit it now. (Penny - was Louise #1 harassing you too?) But, Penny, I think I've answered your call of "less faster folk."

Also, Mikael, I seem to recall that we passed group #2, which made us the middle group, not the slowest! And, yes, the phrase "don't drop Mikael" seems etched into my brain.

I tried to add everyone who indicated a commitment in previous posts. Sorry if I missed anyone. Rich - I'm not sure what Neil's answer was, but I'll let you add yourself if you decide for sure to join.

Adding two more "less speedy" folks to the list. We will only be going as far as Lake Cowichan where we will leave to spend time in the water. Apparently it is supposed to be 28 degrees next weekend. ;)

Mark Ford and I organised this challenging ride about 5 years ago.
This year we aren't. I may ride to Sooke with you.

A few things we have learnt:
1. Eat and drink more than you think you need too. Thanks to Steve White, his Van will be fully stocked ...and paid for by Tripleshot.
2. Do 2 groups right from the start or definatly from Sooke.Trust me on this one.
3. In the Van. have a spare wheel set, tires, extra Co2s and a couple of chain links.
4. If its really hot jump in the lake past Port Renfrew. We did in 2016.
5. Make sure you all know the route from Lake Cowichan to Duncan to Mill Bay.
6.For any new people or your friends: You must be a Tripleshot and Cycling B.C. member.
7.Only get in the Van if you have to. In other words plan on finishing. Unless ...you have said you are stopping, as someone has or you are riding to Sooke with me.
8. Thank Neil and Steve White for looking after you.

Any thing else Mark Ford?
Any questions Big Loopers??

The weather forecast for 15 July is (currently) looking like this

26°HI
RealFeel® 29°
Precipitation 0%
Winds from the
North 6 km/h
Gusts: 18 km/h
Max UV Index: 8 (Very High)
Plenty of sunshine; warm

Proper rehydration and sunblock is going to be crucial.

Just to clarify please ...

For the vehicle(s) to have a spare wheel set, tires and co2 cartridges ...
are these items Club-supplied or rider-supplied? (might help if everyone (especially newbies like me) know the difference please)
thanks.

Okay - maybe best to update/clarify now that me and my vehicle have been asked to be the 2nd vehicle of a 2 vehicle support crew.
Sorry but I've had my share of surprises with making assumptions about rides in the past and will happily volunteer as the dumb guy asking the obvious questions ... if it helps everyone stay on the same page.

So ... not a question but a statement:
As I understand it, as of today (separate PM conversations here) there is no motorcycle this year and there is no specific support/encouragement for a 3rd group. The proposal I made with my vehicle a few weeks back proposing that as the 3rd of at least 3 vehicles it might follow the first/fastest group from the half way point, is no longer on the table here. If you're riding this, you're planning to be riding in one of two groups really for a twelve hour + commitment from start to finish (except for those 4 or more so far who are only going to Lake C and some only to Sooke).

Very much looking forward to being an observer/volunteer for this one and will see everyone bright and early Sunday morning. :D

If I'm to carry gear in my vehicle, I'll wait for it to be supplied either by the riders or the club Sunday. I'll try to throw in a proper pump with pressure gauge. I've printed my own copy of the "cue sheets" and truly hope I don't screw up with the directions!

If someone doesn't offer a better solution before Sunday morning, I'll be bringing an "el cheap-o" bike carrier that "compresses" your bike's top tube ... not ideal for carbon frames but all I got to offer right now and to put one or more bikes inside the vehicle would eat up too much precious cargo space. Would happily carry peoples back-up wheels, shoes, fresh clothes, extra water, sunscreen, food etc. But again as I understand it, riders have to plan to take back their extra gear at the ferry where the support ends.

Weather looks great so should be an awesome day!

Hello All

Here's the scoop on the Big Loop Ride.
We will have 3 support vehicles, Steve White in the Westfalia, James B in the Highlander, and Tracey & Rosie in the Subaru Outback.
We have 2 sets of wheels (1 set 10 speed, and 1 set 11 speed), Track pump, bicycle racks.
Remember to take your own tubes, pumps and cartridges etc.
I am getting the food supplies for the day. Do we have any dietary requirements??

The route is as follows:
Start at Alpha Street Starbucks
For cars, follow Douglas Street Northbound onto the Highway, then proceed onto Highway 14 (Sooke) and keep going to 1st stop.
For bikes, follow Galloping Goose from Alpha Street to Old Island Highway. From Old Island Highway to Highway 14 (Sooke) and keep going to 1st stop.
1st stop - Sooke River Store on corner of Sooke Road and Sooke River Road.
All vehicles and riders follow West Coast Road West to 2nd Stop.
2nd Stop - Jordan River (on left hand side of road just as you come to the ocean side.
All vehicles and riders follow West Coast Road to 3rd Stop.
3rd Stop - Port Renfrew (on left hand side opposite Denning Road - to Lake Cowichan)
All vehicles and riders follow Denning Road to T junction. Turn Right onto Pacific Marine Road .
Follow Pacific Marine Road to South Shore Road. Turn Right towards Lake Cowichan and 4th stop.
4th Stop - Lake Cowichan Centennial Park (on left hand side).
All vehicle and riders follow South Shore Road into Lake Cowichan town centre, go through town, and straight on at roundabout. Turn right onto Cowichan Lake Road.
Follow Cowichan Lake Road all the way until you reach T auction. Turn Right and follow into Duncan.
At 1st roundabout, turn right onto Cowichan Lake Road. At 2nnd roundabout go straight on towards Duncan.
Just before the start of the divided highway and rail crossing, turn right onto Allenby Road.
Take left hand turn after river bridge onto Miller Road.
Follow Miller Road to Koksilah Road. Follow Koksilah Road to rans Canada Highway.
Follow Trans Canada Highway South towards Mill Bay.
Meet up at Mill Bay Shopping Centre (Thriftys) to get ferry tickets.
Follow Mill Bay Road to Ferry Terminal.

From Brentwood Bay Ferry Terminal, follow your nose home.

Cheers

I have a question, will the support vehicles be carrying water so that we can top up our bottles during Sunday's epic adventure. Can't wait to see you all on Sunday morning :)

Hi Steven

In answer to your question. Yes. We have a VW Westfalia van accompanying us which will have a full water tank, plus 2 other vehicles that will have bottled water on board.
