Merry Xmas triple shots
Great holiday ride lineup but a very busy time of year. We don't have time to do the TT or the ride out tomorrow.
Instead, Dolly and I plan a small waterfront loop - maybe a classic Friday farm team ride or if it's a bit frosty an out and back along the water. Leaving the fairfield starbucks at 7:30 (coffee at 7:00). Return to Fairfield (Cook St. Mocha or sunny Mocha) by about 8:45ish. Everyone is welcome. Great first warmup for the TT.
Thanks for the invite Rob - hope you have a great Boxer. We are headed up island tomorrow AM.
Cheers,
Eric

Mike L gets major gloating points for braving it down from the reaches of Gordon Head to Fairfield SB. I only went because I couldn't see frost from my house, but the next street was covered, as was about every second street.

Mike had a theory that north south streets were blown dry/clear? by the northerly wind, while east west steets frost up. Fairfield was bad, but Shelbourne wasn't.

And another thing, the school network of temperatures map was no help at all; it read 2 or 3 degrees in our riding area, but everywhere there was ice except the wider north south roads. How can we trust it if ice is so apparent at 2 and 3 degrees?

I just came in from walking the dog and the roads and cars are icing up, yet temperature is 3. WTF?

There was a ride yesterday, Al. It hovered around zero so there was just salty grit to deal with on the roads - no slippery bits.

However, two consecutive days of frost kept evryone away. John led just me and Farm Team Dave on a neato tour through 10 Mile Point's back pathways. I was home by 8:30, feeling like poop and cursing my Christmas overindulgence.

Hope this morning's ride was well-populated and the pace was easy on those still suffering from turkeyfarts...

Have we got a plan for a New Year's day ride yet or will we do a classic Sunday ride? Personally, I like the ride Blaise and co. did a couple of weeks ago:

"Blaise and I are setting out at 600 am from cook st starbucks for a awesome climbing fest a couple observatorys, a couple willis points, a darantz lake road and a munns road. big old loop/sort of. should be about 60 miles with about 3500 vertical with the goose as to and from. I do not know how long it will take but it should be good suffering."

Great way to start off the new year!

Anyone else got a suggestions?

Why did Thursday get left out of the holiday ride schedule? If it's not raining hard when the alarm goes off, I'll stop at Fairfield Starbucks for a coffee between 7 and 7:30 tomorrow before an approx. 1.5 hour ride. If anyone wants to join, I'll see you there.

I'll give a definite maybe to the 7:30 Starbucks departure New Years day - looks like a great opportunity for some slip-slidin, for some apply-brakes-and-wait-30-seconds-for-the-grab-to-happen, for some hot choco, and a happy hour or two of bike maintenance.

ps - Happy New year to all Tripleshotters! Here's hoping that 2010 sees a bit of that global warming sent Fairfield way - :)
