Careful How You Ride When Wearing TSC Kit Please

Post by barton bourassa »

I had a fellow from work approach me about a cyclist dressed in the new TSC kit riding at what appeared to him to be high speed on the sidewalk towards the gymnastics place on Store. Lots of kids were coming and going with and without their parents. My co worker was not impressed.

Please ride with care and on the road when dressed in such identifiable kit.

By the way, he thought the new kit looked great.

Barton.

Speaking of people riding like jerks on bikes (reading between the lines of Barton’s nice and diplomatic post), my partner remarked to me the other day that he saw a cyclist riding like a jerk in regards to pedestrians. The cyclist was riding down oak bay ave with what is now the old kit on and they had a black arm warmer on one arm and a yellow on the other. Pedestrians were crossing the road and cars were stopped for them and the cyclist wove between the pedestrians and the stopped cars. Please, ride like we would want others to ride if we were pedestrians. If we ride like jerks it not only reflects badly on the club but on all cyclists, and we know we do not want to add fuel to the anti-cyclist fire!!

My colleague just informed me that on Sunday at about 3 p.m., a cyclist wearing the new, orange Tripleshot kit was spotted riding like, well, a jerk. This TSCer was riding south on the switch bridge towards Victoria, and his bike had aero bars. It was a nice afternoon, so the bridge was jammed with pedestrians, but this cyclist dodged in and around people, riding far too fast for the conditions. My colleague has spent a lot of time on the road riding as a former Cops for Cancer participant, and says this was not OK.

Forgive my Doweresque bluntness, but if you ride like a dick, it blows back on the rest of us (no Warburtonian double-entendre intendred).

It doesn't matter how clever you think you are at handling a bike...if you're zooming close to pedestrians or other cyclists, or even drivers, you're *scaring people* because they don't have any way of knowing whether you're in control. Think about that. You--while basking in the joy of riding--are *scaring* people. That's not cool or polite or good for the wonderful happy sport of cycling or for the club or your friends on two wheels.

Be a good citizen. Smile, give people a friendly nod, give a wave of thanks when drivers are nice--even if they're just doing the bare minimum the law requires. Turn the other cheek if people are unpleasant.
Don't ride fast on the Goose when it's crowded. etc. etc...

That is all.
