The Kit Vote is Live

Post by mfarnham »

Hi All,

The Kit Vote is now live. That means current (2018) members should have an email from SurveyMonkey in their inbox with a kit survey question in it. Answer the question (you’re asked to rank 3 different kit designs from favourite (1) to least favourite (3)), click Done, and you’ve voted. Your rankings will be used to run a Single Transferrable Vote election to select the winning design.

Some notes:

1) The kit committee reserves the right to make final tweaks to the winning design. Each finalist design could probably benefit from a bit of polish from an expert designer at our supplier (to be determined).

2) We’ve tested the survey question on a laptop and a phone. The image is highly distorted on a phone. Use a laptop or desktop computer to best view your design choices.

3) The vote will close in 1 week. If you take a moment now to quickly give your rankings, you won’t run the risk of forgetting about it.

4) Vote observers will be announced before the vote closes.

If you gave Tripleshot an obscure email account when you signed up as a member, go check that account for the email with the ballot question.

How will the winner be revealed?

This is where things get interesting. The Kit Committee, with the support of the Tripleshot Executive, has decided that the big reveal will happen in the following way:

Votes will be tabulated and a winner determined. We will then open the kit order on the Tripleshot online forum. The kit order will be held open for 2 weeks. The new kit will all be shipped to a single address, and shortly after it arrives we’ll hold a pub night to gather for the big reveal. Everyone can show up, get their kit, put it on (optional), cheer for it and/or slag on it, and raise a glass to Spring.

We will try to hold a sizing event with kit samples from our supplier (soon to be determined) while the kit order is open, in order to minimize sizing errors.

If you’re not yet a member of Tripleshot and sign up before the vote closes, I will try to get you a ballot. I can’t promise to be able to do this (I’m new to the voting platform), but will try. Email tripleshotcyclingclub@gmail.com (only after you’ve signed up as a member) if you’re in this boat. Please don’t wait until the end of the voting period to do this.

Best,
Martin

Done!

Love the Big Reveal pub night on kit delivery. The perfect way to keep the mystery alive, make this genuinely fun, and ensure maximum uptake.

Big thanks to Mary, Martin, Ritchie, and Fozzy for the evident time, care, and thought you've all put into this process.

While I like the idea of the "big reveal" (especially if Fozzy is the runway model), I'm less happy with requiring people to order the kit "blind" - before seeing which particular design it will be. My guess is that it will reduce the size of the initial kit order, as people will hedge their bets and wait to see whether they like what they're paying for.

I agree with John. Personally, two of the designs I would order kit from for sure, the third maybe not... So I would have to hedge my bets and wait until others had ordered and I get a chance to see the kit.. Sorry, I like risk, but kit is not cheap and I am. And it would be nice to have TS kit in time for the Masters Championships...

Sorry to be a party pooper, but I agree with John and Paula. I think the idea of a surprise is fun, but of the three designs, I really only like one of them, so if we don't know what the winning design is before ordering, I'm unlikely to order in the first round. I *might* be interested in the other two, but I would like to see them in real life first before spending money on them.

Well done folks. I like them all...to the point where I would like to propose (tongue in cheek) that we follow professional football teams and go with three kits....home, away and 3rd.

Friends,

I love all three kit designs, have a favourite, but will happily take what I get in a blind reveal, especially if it's at a pub with Jamesons. If I could I would express my gratitude to Fozzy, Mary, Ritchie and Martin with a gif. However, since Rolf has put the guybosh on "response gifs" I'm colourizing, with fingers crossed, my top selections instead.

I'd like to echo Rolf's thanks to Mary, Ritchie, Martin and of course Neil for all of their work, including the patience and humour in accepting all of the "help" we collectively provided.

As for the dilemma of ordering kit blind, could we not offer a favour to those wishing to know the design they are purchasing in a private email reply? In return, we could ask for the favour of having the winning design kept secret. Are we mature enough for that? ( excluding some CXers )

Thanks to our design committee! If its up for debate (and I hope it is), our household is with Paula, Ann, John etc. Would not order something as expensive as cycling kit w/o knowing what it is going to look like. Perhaps if I loved all 3 kits, maybe...but my opinions are similar to those expressed already with a clear 1..........2.... and....................................................................3.

I like the designs thanks all for working on this project. NO opinion yet on a a favourite I would likely wear any of these. I see the jerseys but what do the leg and arm wormers and shorts look like? All important for the overall effect. Keep it bright by keeping the colours ( not only black and midnight blue ) going on the bottom and the top,

thanks

Yes, I would like to know what the shorts look like along with the kit. For example, I love the first colour for visibility, but would not want to wear pale blue shorts. Could be too much "visibility", if you know what I mean :)

Thanks,

Sorry, I do not mean to be difficult, I love all the designs and really wish to thank the JDC (jersey design committee).

I have a question about sleeve length. #1 and #3 both have longer sleeves with a cuff, and #2 does not. I assume this is just a design software thingy, and we will just choose the style of jersey we wish at the time of purchase? That is, the super short sleeve style is not necessarily a given?

Thanks gang. I don't think too goodly.

I fully recognize that kit is expensive and is often a "luxury" purchase, since most of us already have enough functional cycling clothing to choke a penguin. But for those of us who can afford it, changing kit affords a fresh opportunity to support the Club.* Of course aesthetics matter—but I'll suggest contributing to club cohesion and supporting our sponsors are significantly more important (to me).

Our last kit lasted five years. If you're unwilling to buy the next one blind, ask yourself whether you'll actually never buy that ugly choice #3 over the next half-decade, and whether you're content to be the odd-person-out on rides until the next kit in 2023.

If you're unsure about the answer, then why not jump in and enjoy the rare pleasure of buying yourself a surprise? Otherwise, I'd say please let the rest of us have our fun while you sit on your hands until the fall... :D

* Don't some clubs require members to buy kit each year? I think our junior team members have to, don't they?

In disobedience to Rolf, and also to show my gratitude to the Jersey Design Committee, can you allow me just one litle gif?

You think just fine, Eric. I'm all for the super-short sleeve style. Seriously, how else am I going to be able to properly kiss the guns throughout the ride?

Correct, they do. But that's because some of the sponsors (e.g. the ones contributing $5K-$10K per year) require that all the kids wear the current design, particularly given how frequently they end up being photographed on the podium!

Kit = good. Kit vote = good. Kit mystery = fun (and sucking it up and being cohesive = also fun).

All this silly giff use = not that fun. Bear in mind that some of us browse the forum at work and animated, occasionally off-colour flashy gifs when we don't expect them is apt to render this forum NSFW. And that would = decidedly unfun.

So, can we restrict the silly giffy usage to the silly cross thread(s) where its overuse originated? Puhleeze?

Looking forward to the surprise. Having been on the sideline for years I am jumping in feet first for full submersion! I have already warned my dear wife to prepare for a substantial increase in my clothing budget for this spring!

Thank you very much to everyone that worked on this. Your time and effort and dedication to our club is greatly appreciated!

Barton.
