Spinbike (Trainer) Video Recommendations

Post by Rolf »

I'm looking for recommendations for spinning videos, either online downloads or DVDs available in local retail.

Background: my wife rides a spinbike (despite my best efforts to coax her outside.) She's been using training videos by GCN, Global Cycling Network, but is getting bored of them (they've always seemed a bit too shouty, British, and nauseatingly upbeat to me.) I've shown her The Sufferfest but they have way too much testosterone bleeding out of the screen. Her goal is riding for fitness, not training. Also: her spinbike is not data-enabled; so things like Zwift, TrainerRoad, or other apps that work with real-time data are kinda pointless.

I've been looking at Virtual Active videos which look more like scenic touring videos, with a little coaching. But I'm keen for other ideas.

When I ride my trainer, I like to watch the CTXC videos: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCPvjah ... HG1tvqMZSA

They are a cycling club in Australia, and I like their videos because they simulate a rolling pace line (good practice for M for joining TS rides!) and they feature nice scenery that I've never seen before.

They have a bunch of different lengths and they definitely do not bleed testosterone. Here's the description from their 45 minute video:

This is our regular Tuesday morning ride along Melbourne's 'famous' Beach Road. We tend to average 40+kmh. The total distance is 27.9kms. Distance excluding warm-up/down is 22.4 kms.

Hi Rolf,

Some Youtube channels for consideration- in vague order of my preference.

The Col Collective- A number of the sufferfest videos are based on these rides, but super chill and fun to watch/ figure out when you might do some of the rides.

UCI Channel has some good races- Sundays may have a good live cross race at the moment.

Trainer road does a good Vlog once a week- somewhat boring to look at, but really interesting discussion on training.

Cycling Maven if you are interested in an Ozzie Vlog with a cycling theme.

"Cycling climbs"

"Indoor cycling videos"

TED

Netflix

I also created my own playlist of 100+ music videos that are fairly high energy and shuffle them for hard workouts.

Good luck
