Forecasts of temperature, precipitation & leprechauns

Post by JTyre »

On this morning’s cross ride a certain Viking asked “hva skal denne vinteren være” or “what will this winter be like”.

The closest scientific answer is here: https://weather.gc.ca/saisons/index_e.html. For our region, temperatures averaged over the months of December, January and February are forecast below normal, precipitation near normal. These forecasts are based on computer models that our group has been developing since the 1970's. The information on the above site is very basic. As demand dictates, I can provide more cycling-relevant information (e.g., snowfall, dewpoint temperature, leprechaun sightings) for the low cost of free or best offer.

Sheesh, let me add climate scientists onto my list of obscurist academics who produce stuff of profound complexity where we, petty men, wander around wondering what the heck they're talking about. The world really needs more translators, stat. On the issue of translation, I think this Viking actually asked:
"Har du noe imot om jeg lager en ølkrus med skallen din??" Which (roughly) translates into:
"do you mind if I make a beer mug out of your skull?"

Let's call this a 'lost in translation' ride, but really, beer mugs and skulls are a 'thing'.
I'm just saying, I'm thirsty, and I like the shape of John's head.
