Kit Design Ideas - WE NEED YOU!!!!

Re: Kit Design Ideas - WE NEED YOU!!!!
I think we should all just sit back and let Neil do his thing ........ I trust him, and I'm wondering if he thought he would receive this kind of help
( I would like to see Rolf in Roland's 3rd design ).

Greg, Louise, and others who are "design curious" - try Champ Sys for online designing:
cycling kit design link
And watch for design details that may draw too much attention to certain anatomic features (I'm afraid Leftcoaster Dave's proposal would highlight the left breast on the ladies, thereby causing the right to feel inferior, for example).

I agree with Andrew, Neil is designing the kit and I'm sure he will do a great job. Personally I'm not a fan of the baby blue though and I would like to see Jim in Roland's design.

It's entirely possible Neil will unveil something super cool and creative. I've bought both his Christmas card designs and they are really great.
However, I do think it's fun to open this up to others and generate a variety of ideas. Much like in other democratic institutions, people are invited to participate and, if they choose not to, they are indicating they're entrusting others with the decision-making. If this results in less bickering over what the final choice is and more involvement by members - everyone wins!
For the record, Fozzy did invite input in his original post when he wrote, "...So get your crayons out and submit your designs or ideas on here by the end of Nov, and all will be considered."

Sorry if it seemed I was attempting to dampen the enthusiasm ...... these creative designs are ..... very ..... creative !!! Please let's have more! I'm still waiting eagerly for Greg's crayon submission. And yes, Neil definitely called for ideas; as long as we don't expect him to actually incorporate ALL of this artistry into the final design, we should be fine

All righty, here's my stab. Admittedly, this came out super conservative and kinda boring. But that's more a testament to my lack of creativity and limitations with the design interface, than my own risk aversion. (I proudly wear chickens and tractors on my Ferme kit!) I'm also guessing that keeping the majority of our 220+ members happy means playing it pretty safe.
Other design notes:
Cyclocross
Other design notes:
- I find good visibility relies more on high contrasts between light and dark (though bright colours are good too). I also obviously think orca look cool.
- Anything that looks white here, is meant to be light grey; blacks are black.
- I've tried to incorporate aspects of our current kit, the black race kit, and the easter egg kit;
all jerseys here have baby blue pinstripes, some have a pink stripe as well—I couldn't find a good place for yellow. - I couldn't find a good argyle pattern in the design interface and the CS design thingy doesn't let you fade patterns into the background very easily—but it could be added as an accent, maybe on the side panels.
- I've always thought adding "Cycling Club" or even "Cycling" to be redundant. I've also thought including our website URL unnecessary in today's age of universal search.
- I've kept things symmetrical on the chest for the sake of Claire's right breast, but I've thrown in asymmetrical legs for the sake of Louise (and others who grew up in the 80s.)

Re: Kit Design Ideas - WE NEED YOU!!!!
Thanks Rolf
Appreciate the work here and wish i could figure out how to use the design tools myself. May have to get out the crayons.
Your grey fade to black with black contrast sounds to me to be v e r y dark. Perhaps I am misreading what you mean by grey and perhaps misinterpreting the visuals that you have produced but grey and black do not a high visibility kit make.
I agree with your point #5
As to the last point about the 80s is it only those from the 60s and 70s that are willing to take design risks?
looking for the NEON
still like leftcoasters offering best so far. Those that have unilateral body accent concerns issues should remember that at speed no one is going to see the large left shoulder as a problem.... move the swirle epicentre away from the left breast.
loving this design process.
No, really I am.

Re: Kit Design Ideas - WE NEED YOU!!!!
Somewhere between the boring but ultimately functional Rolf design #1 and the Peacocks and Odin would do me fine. Though I'm not sure it's a good idea to force people to stare at me on the back of the jersey in front of them. That's just cruel.
And let's not leave out rabbits. That was the missing varmint from the more whimsical design. Including one would pay tribute to that furry speedbump I once ran over near the golf course...? (But not as pictured)
Note to Fozzy, I know you're reaching that point where you're going to tell us all to bugger off so you can get down to work on a serious kit but please remember the many bases you have to hit with the new kit which must have at least one of each of these:
argyle, baby blue, animals (especially peacocks) coffee cups and whimsey.

I think Rolf was on to something with his pink pinstripe. He came closer to hitting the spot with his neon design (which I actually quite like). Here is my updated two cents with, you guessed it, more pink! I don't know how to add it to the design, but the blue-black faded part would ideally incorporate some argyle.

Kevin - Good placing of black in the middle of the back of the shorts, otherwise, umm, cracks may appear....
And a little too much pink, but I like where you’re going with your design

Re: Kit Design Ideas - WE NEED YOU!!!!
I like both Roland's submissions on this page. The purple one is cool in a Federation kinda way. But I suspect both would be subject to remonstrations by the visibility-police.
As for all you garish, neon, asymmetrical folks, me and my left-brain just can't relate. But here's a nod to the ol' easter egg that was discussed over coffee this morning.
It's been fun to play around with things. I'm looking forward to what Neil has for us to vote on. (Although I really liked the idea of everyone ordering new kit sight unseen. Leap of faith!)
