How risky is heavy exertion in the newly arrived wildfire smoke? Most information deals with acute or occupational exposure. This review article has a good summary:

Most risks apply to those with chronic lung problems such as asthma, smaller individuals or children. There is little science re. longer term risks of exposure in sporting activities such as cycling. We would inhale more fine particulate particles while riding than at rest. Mask type filters would be unlikely to help.
