Post by Lister Farrar »

Emergency first aid training Tues-Wed June 26-28 7-9:30 pm, Richmond school.

$90, or less if we get more, room for up to 21.

The course will be customized to cycling: with emphasis on abrasions, collarbones, concussions, and wilderness considerations for mtb and cx.

Certification takes 8 hrs, lasts 3 years, and meets most government requirements.

Alert First Aid delivers programs for red cross, WCB, and is registered with Heath Canada.

Interesting facts from last nights course.

Brain damage starts at 4 minutes after breathing stops, permenant at about 7 minutes.

And the average response time by first responders to a 911 call is 81/2 minutes in victoria. And that's the best in BC. Makes cpr seem worthwhile.

Also longest cpr success was 4 hours, on a women who's heart stopped when skiing, by three patrollers until paramedics could defibrillate. Revived then immediately.

You can see if cpr is working. Victims go from blue to pink, even if they still have no pulse and can't breath on their own.

Magic revivals like the movies are rare for cpr, 2-3 %, but success rate for paramedics is 80% if someone has done cpr waiting for the paramedics.

Also kinda cool that out of 12 people in the course, 6 are ts youth riders. 3 parents, 3 coaches, 1 adult rider. Now if I can just get them to come to am rides, there'll be someone to start hearts deprived of coffee for too long. ;)
