Ritchie's amazing fundraising ride

Post by Plawless »

If you haven't been following Ritchie and Caroline on their epic Celebrate Canada 150 Ride to Ottawa then shame on you!

I've been tracking them on Facebook and strava and it's been incredible. But it's more than a bike ride Ritchie is doing this to raise awareness and funds to support a couple of charities that work with military and first responders that suffer from ptsd as a result of their service to their communities and country.

In particularly awesome news the good folks at the fundraising page (GoFundMe) for soldieron have not only been watching Ritchie's progress but were themselves so inspired by him and Caroline that they have donated $1000 to SoldierOn! Wow!!! That brings Ritchie to $3500 of his $5000 goal. What do you say Tripleshot? Can we help him get there before July 1st? If it helps I will match dollar for dollar the next $250 that comes in... who wants a piece of that? Anyone else up for some matching awesomeness?

Thank you everyone--we are getting closer to our goal with Soldier On ~ $4700 and about ~ $2800 with Honour House. Both are equally amazing organizations. Our goal is $5000 for each.

We are having 2 days rest on Calabogie Lake and on Friday we will ride 70km from Arnprior to Ottawa. Our daughter Shevaun will be flying in from Vancouver for that finale which will be great as she started the ride with us for the first 2 days as well. There will be a couple of TS members on hand to great us--the official welcoming committee--so that will be fun.

We have received great support from Tripleshot members--thank you. I haven't yet individually thank those who donated over the last two days, however I will do so.

There are some great shots on Strava that I posted everyday--so if you want a quick and dirty on the ride you can go there--Ritchie Hughes. The more amazing story though, is Caroline--Caroline Hugs, Strava--who has smashed through any records that she had previously, got a few QOMs and top tens along with names like Clara Hughes (yes, that Clara Hughes). Improved rider of the year, anyone?!

We will have lots to share when we get back.

Lastly, I know that we all know about Soldier On and I would like to tell you a bit about Honour House. It is like a Ronald McDonald House for any first responder--or their family. Like Soldier On, it is broader than a PTSD only focus. It will open by year end a new ranch near Kamloops that will be solely focused on those with PTSD. It will soon announce a new home in Ottawa and would like to expand to all provinces (it serves all provinces). In its New Westminster location it is like an amazing oasis! It is hard to explain except it is likely the last place you would like to go personally, however I am sure you would be glad you are there once you were.

Thank you again, Tripleshot community. The finish line is so close...

Regards
Ritchie
