Thank you for posting this link Craig .... I knew there were reasons I don't spin. Well I did try it once and have decided that ......... I don't spin.

In an article describing the benefits of winter cycling, I particularly enjoyed the section entitled
"Riding outside is sociable" which is accompanied by a cruel photo of a group of riders in a sun-drenched Italian piazza!!

Funny how right at the top, he links to his article on 6 reasons to train inside.

Clearly the first choice (I would hope) for our club members would be to ride together. I am a social creature, and that's what I love about TS rides.

Some of what this author states is true, but to be fair, done correctly, indoor training can be better than outdoor. At least for short (say up 60 or 90 min) rides where the focus is on intervals. It is quite difficult to do very structured intervals on the road in a city. With cars, intersections, and changes in grade, sticking to an interval schedule is difficult. On the trainer you can focus on the time, and on your data (cadence, power, heart-rate etc) without putting yourself at risk. For the social aspect, try a class. I've been doing a couple of spin classes per week this winter at the Trek store, and they are great. Good bunch of people, fun, great workout, no wear on my bike (they have good spin bikes with power etc), summer clothing and loud pumping music.

I am really looking forward to riding more regularly with TS outside, but if there is a chance of black ice. I'm not coming. Can't afford to break something, or have time off the bike.

I do miss Andrew too.

Awww Eric, I miss you too!

If you want to top up your Sardinia training, come on out and we can do some interval training on Interurban together.
