Just received the following text from Alan. Apparently the anaesthetic didn't dull his sense of humour:

"Just finished the surgery. All is good. Funny that the Tragically Hip are playing Victoria today. The Replacements should play backup. LOL"

Can't keep a good man down I guess. Get well soon buddy!

Thanks John. Things went very well yet everything from my waist down is still frozen. Even the junk. Sun is shining and I can see the Sooke hills beckoning from my sixth floor window. All in all, a good day. When I'm back home --probably tomorrow--don't hesitate to stop by and fill your waterbottle from my fountain and say hello.
