More Rudeness Before the Sunday Ride

Post by Rolf »

Geez, guys. With all the terrible crashes and questionable decision making, it's not been a good week for Tripleshot.

Before this morning's ride, Paula S. spoke up and politely conveyed the Club exec's decision that if turnout was good, Sundays start as two rides. But a couple of voices effectively overrode our Club Secretary and we left en masse. We started with 25, but then picked up a slew of riders in the first 10K (as we do every week) and were soon a huge, strung-out, unsafe group of 32+.

Your Club executive members are solid gold and should be afforded even greater respect than the rest of your fellow Tripleshotters, owing to their volunteer commitment and demonstrable dedication to the Club. The Club exec is also in a much better position to figure out what's best for all of us when it comes to ride directives—they can deal with things systemically, are communicating with the cops etc. They also really respect the necessary balance between context-driven, organic decision-making within a particular ride group, and the need in some cases to impose Club rules to make things safer and better.

Regardless of what you think about the number of groups on a Sunday, it would be great in the future if the Club exec's decisions are respected.

(After this and my other semi-rant this week about folks kicking around B1 on Tuesday, I'm off to soak my head. I've clearly had some sanctimoniousness to excrete! :P )

Two weeks back the Exec decided that, in the interests of safety, the Sunday ride would hereafter start out as two groups on days when more than 20 people were there at the start. The first group would be faster, and the second would be somewhat slower. Although I did not get around to posting this before leaving on vacation, the fact that it was announced at this morning's ride should have sufficed.

In addition to the safety factor (especially considering that we usually pick up 6-10 riders along the way in the summer), having two groups on Sundays also helps ensure that the fastest riders aren't always having to ride slower than they'd like, and that the slower riders aren't always on the rivet just trying to hang on.
