Rough coming home from Thursday TT

Neil, it was a shock to see you sitting on a rock wall, with several folks around attending, you bloodied up. I must have been five minutes behind you when I came across the scene on Pandora, just before Fernwood on my way home after this morning's TTT and coffee. But a relief when you calmly explained what happened. You'd hit an object (a rock?) on the road and then slammed into the back of the vehicle travelling in front of you (a green hatch-back Jeep). Your nose must have taken the brunt of that. When the para-medics arrived with the ambulance you again calmly answered all their questions then entered their vehicle so they could clean you up.
The neighbour, a friendly woman, whose house we were in front of ... promised me she'd store your bike until you could come around and pick it up. The front forks looked irreparably stretched apart.
The friendly woman told me to carry on my way, she'd co-ordinate with you about the bike.

Hi guys. Thanks for the messages. You guys rock!! I am back at home now feeling a bit sore with the gravel rash etc.
I was riding very quickly along Pandora and had just switched lanes where Begbie merges and got into the bike lane. I hit a dip which put me way too far forward on the bike and subsequently, I lost the front end. I went down just before a Jeep which was parked. I took all of the impact with my face. I tore part of my septum, nostril, and split my face just under my nose. 15 stitches and I am good to go. The forks on my bike are broken, and I think the skewer of the front wheel snapped too.
What was amazing was that I managed to miss the tow hitch on the back of the car by about an inch. I am a very lucky boy indeed!!!

Man, Neil, you are one tough dude ...... only a cyclist like you would say you are "good to go" after acquiring road rash and "splitting your face" ( excellent name for a band BTW ). You and Mike and Allan should be nursing your wounds at a pub tonight and skipping the ride tomorrow. If you do show up for Friday's ride I would be honoured to carry your pack.

Holy hell! Glad you are talking and joking. What a morning. A crash (sorry about that guys), an irate motorist and some car punches, then a broken coffee cup. I thought that would be the end of it. So sorry to hear about this crash Neil. Take care,

yikes, Neil, that sounds brutal! Taking the brunt of a crash with your face? Even if it's a 'face' that, as the saying goes, "Only a Mother Would Love...."

I was reading this thread in the kitchen on my laptop when my lovely Lynda (reading over my shoulder) said 'wow' what's that about?" Even though she and her firm are the lead sponsors for our club (She's the "Cassels" in the bold "Cassels-Murray" on the back of most of our jerseys) she had no idea what hard-ass cyclist dudes were in our club! Those types who could take a serious bonk on the nose and jump up, Pythonesque to say "T'is only a flesh wound". We've got some seriously tough dudes in this club, and I'd say Neil is tougher, no doubt, than the wussy airborne soldiers I used to jump out of airplanes with...

Alan- funny, I was riding this morning looking at the Cassels-Murray logo wondering why you took your wife's last name, or was some other relative the connection to the law firm? I figured you are just a modern kinda guy.

Lol! Alan, you are correct in your assumption that I have a face "only a mother could love". I now have a "face for radio". After the crash, I jumped up quite pythonesque, and was quite prepared to walk by bike around the corner to home using the Ministry of Silly Walks methodology. Judging by people's faces when they saw me, and their instance that I was to sit down and await the ambulance, I kinda gathered that it was a bit more serious.
