Winter Wear Wanted

Post by Rolf »

After being the only semi-naked guy on the patio this morning, I'm looking to get some cold/wet-weather gear.

I'm wondering if any fair-weather riders want to offload surplus gear? As a civil servant in times when the "fiscal cupboard is bare" (see yesterday's Throne Speech) I'm necessarily frugal and happy to take second-hand goods.

I'm interested in arm warmers, leg warmers, long-sleeved jerseys, wind-resistant jerseys, booties? - whatever will keep me comfy on the nasty mornings to come.

If you'd rather not air your dirty laundry in public, you can message me directly.

Sorry I can't help Rolf, but if you are forced to buy new, (and can't wait for Tripleshot gear of course) I have used the MEC Vuelta fleece tights, and the Cadence jersey for several winters. I found them great, even in the rain, and a reasonable price. I use them for xc ski too.

I have Sugoi leg warmers from OBB; they're lighter and great for in weather in between shorts and the warmer fleece tights. I use MEC armwarmers.

For feet, I have some BBB neoprene booties I got from Dave Spiers that are great in most conditions, and a pair of gortex MEC watergroof ones that I wear in very rainy weather or over the BBB's in super cold weather. Good for commuting too.

I use a plastic Garneau rain jacket in the rain ~25$. They're cheap and I've ridden comfortably in the rain for two hours with it. I've had expensive waterproof-breathable jackets from patagonia, but eventually they leak and aren't much more comfortable than the ventilated plastic, if any. Maybe newer ones are better. The main trick is get something that rolls small enough so you actually have it with you when you need it.

I'm very grateful you're underemployed at present, Lister -- you're such a valuable resource to this community.

I hope TSC pays you handsomely. You should never have to pick up the tab for coffee.

I think I'm actually supposed to pay extra for the privelege of spewing my accumulated cycotrivia...(pun intended) But thanks anyway. :)

Rolf,

I've got a pair of new, never used Medium Sized Cannondale all weather booties for sale. Paid $70 bucks for them, you can have 'em for $35 if they fit.

Lets talk,

Dylan:

I'm not sure you're getting my PM's on this. Sorry I didn't make this morning's ride - people aren't sleeping where and when they should at home and it's interfering with my 5:55 departure. I hope you weren't stuck riding with those booties stuffed in your jersey, making the small of your back all sweaty.

Check your personal messages; I've left you my contact details so we can arrange an exchange.

Thanks,

Rolf
