Silly Summer Solstice Sunday- 4:30 on...

Post by Bosie »

Just because it doesnt have its own heading and to confirm that some will be out there on Sunday for the Silly Summer Solstice ride- here is the thread:

viewtopic.php?p=29371#p29371

I think Barton was going to elaborate on the event at some point...

Thanks, Craig. I can't imagine that any parameters or expectations have changed from last year's event. It's a surprisingly enjoyable and challenging ride. I would heed Alan's advice about getting out of the saddle regularly to avoid a raw or even purulent posterior.

Please see this 2015 thread for general advice on what is expected from riders and some tips. Just use your mental superpowers to change "June 21" to June 19" as you read.

Also: here's Barton's Strava from last year; they averaged 32.5 km/h. Not bad for 5 hours on the bike!

Just want to reiterate what I wrote a few years ago about how to survive the Silly Solstice, just because I want to save you all the potential pain and it's been a while since I publicly slagged Steve Lund:

from June 18th, 2015:
Having done this excellent but silly ride twice, my one suggestion is to make sure you force yourself out of the saddle at least once per lap otherwise after 5 hours in the saddle, you'll end up with an ass so sore you'll feel like you just did the whole ride beside Steve Lund. I'm talking TORTURE.

I'm not even going to ask how riding beside Lund makes your ass sore... I mean, I knew about your askance stance, but that's taking things a little far...

Owing to 12 hours on the bike with the Farm Team yesterday, I was not up for the century this morning.

But I did interlope for a few laps to spin out the legs after yesterday's extensive mileage—enough to record a few seconds of the action:

Cool video Rolf- thanks.
Dave A and Louise W now own the KOM and QOM for 100 miles around BHP respectively. Hard (or crazy to try) to beat :)
Great day out- thanks all for joining the fun and making it such a Silly Social ride.

PS: my daughter says that to make it even sillier, in 2017 we should all be wearing costumes:)

I meant to post this earlier for Jack and Rolf. I'm pretty sure your appetites match mine! :D

Yum! Home made, I gather? Only thing that could make it better would be if the eggs came from your backyard

Oh yes, everything from the kitchen. Next year you are invited if you bring the backyard eggs!

P.S. I inhaled 7 of the wonderful things

I particularly enjoyed the symmetry of the two equinoxes and two solstices, juxtaposed to demonstrate the obliquity of the ecliptic, all in the form of some damn tasty-looking eggs. Thanks, A!

OMG - seven?? I will bring the eggs and brace myself for the spectacle of you devouring your (okay, maybe my) weight in breakfast foods.

Claire: that's why your nickname is "Jelly Bean" and mine is not.
