Bike depreciation - is there such a thing?

Post by waverider »

Frustrated with how high used bike prices are I decided to look at a few websites and search for my existing bike to gauge the used bike market. I paid $1,900 for a 2013 Cervelo R3. The cheapest I could find, for a USED 2013 R3 was $2,100. Used! The most expensive was $2,800.

Admittedly, I got a good deal on mine. But why are used bikes priced so high? Supply surely exceeds demand doesn't it?

Should I buy new, flip it as used and make a profit?

Every bike I've ever tried to sell I've gotten pennies on the dollar for, maybe it's something I do to them.

The dollar has a lot to do with it. A 2016 R3 is significantly more expensive than a 2013 R3 while being essentially the same bike.
