Fender reminder

Post by Stéphane Tran »

Please see the diagramme below for a friendly reminder about fender length. As you know, "douche" is French for "shower", as in "I received a shower of grit and grime in the face along Interurban today."
The prize for saintliest fender EVER definitely goes to Quentin today!

We had two riders on today's "Barton-fest" who showed up with no fenders at all! I opted for a forceful-but-friendly reminder when we stopped at Mattick's.

Stephane...thanks for the fender flap illustration. It says it all.

Deposit all dirty laundry on the offenders bikes on the next ride.

Stephane, it looked like you had been in your first cyclocross race at Fantastico!

Fenderless Freaks should be shunned! Take the diagram to the bike shop and don't leave until your bike looks like the illustration.

What's the spring/summer etiquette for those of us who have one bike, where reinstalling fenders is a Herculean, sometimes Sisyphean, exercise?

Having spent 99% of my biking life in areas where fenders were hardly seen at all, let alone enforced, I guess I'm used to dealing with tire spray (you learn to ride with your head turned to the side, breathing out one side of your mouth).

But if the local etiquette is to ride solo on those rainy days, so be it. (I try to be the Friendly American, not the Trump American)

1. Buy some quick strap on fenders for cheap. Once you get them set up they take less that 5 minutes to install forever thereafter.

or

2. Stay at the back of the pack on rainy days with no fenders. Don't pull through.

These:

The tabs stay under my brakes year round. They clip back on in under 5 min.

I've had to sit on the back when I didn't have fenders and there were other fenderless people too. One solution was to make a fenderless line and we could all spray each other, but Roland's suggestion is good. I have the same raceblade fenders and they are the best clip ons. They snap off and on easily. Mec sells more afordable rubber strap ons, but the stays are to high up and when you add your extention they get floppy. They would do for the summer though and put your other permanent ones back on in the winter. You could switch them between yours and Louise's bike if you weren't riding at the same time.

These are also easy to switch out. Add a flap and you're good to go.
