Sunday Gravel-sploring

Post by mfarnham »

I've got some new multi-surface tires to try out. I'm thinking of riding out to Thetis tomorrow and learning my way around the paths out that way. Might eventually noodle over to the Hartland trails and then out to Willis Point via dirt (McKenzie Bight trail, etc.). Might throw in some pavement hills too (Willis Point Rd, Ross Durrance, Munns). Likely to be a highly improvisational ride. Leaving 6 or 7am. PM or post if you're interested in joining.

I didn't do the whole trip. Spent a fair bit of time getting lost in Thetis, then wandered over to Hartland, then called it quits because I had a meeting to get to. But I'm starting to get a sense of how things are laid out, and which trails are more ridable and which are less so.

I think it should be doable to add Willis Point, though the climb back out might be painful.

Clement X'Plor USH (the 120tpi version). http://clementcycling.com/ush

They seem pretty good, though I haven't tried enough different tires to give an informative review. They certainly roll faster than the Specialized Terra Pros I was using before (which are a knobbier tire more suited to mud and CX).

I got them to use for the Leavenworth Gran Fondo which is half gravel half pavement. But I think I'll continue to use them for summer gravel riding and maybe even into the dry part of cross season.
