This seemed like the logical place to put this one.
Do TSC members get discounts at any of the local bike shops in town?
I'm thinking about buying a new pair of bike shoes, and lord knows I like my discounts.

I believe Oak Bay Bikes and Russ Hayes, Trek-Pro-City,… maybe Broadstreet. You might want to call them first and ask.
Good question… El presidente, do you have an answer to this question?

Re: Discounts at Local Bike Shops
I tried putting something like this together a few years ago. The short answer is no, there is no TS affiliated bike store that gives members a discount. There are simply too many of us who shop at places all over town to attach the club to one place.
That being said, many of us have relationships with bike stores who give us discounts when we buy there. Support your local bike shop and they will support you.

Re: Discounts at Local Bike Shops
For a bit of historic perspective there was explicit discussion when 3S started that we should not affiliate with a particular bike shop as other clubs have done in the city. This has served us well as our influence and recognition in the community spans a broad spectrum of the cycling disciplines and a broad range of the industry players.
I agree with Geoff Wong that supporting a LBS usually leads to a personal relationship that is both beneficial for the shop and for the rider.

Re: Discounts at Local Bike Shops
Thanks to all for your input.
Very interesting discussion on bigger picture thinking towards not supporting just one shop.
I want to support the local economy and living in James Bay I think I would feel more inclined to do so if there was a bike shop in James Bay.
I guess I'll just keep my eyes and ears open for any beginning of year sales.
