Sale on winter gloves and booties at Trek Store

Post by GarthC »

After freezing my hands and feet off on a couple of cold rainy rides this week I decided to invest in some waterproof/insulated gloves and booties...lucked out with the sale at Trek Bikes. 40% off gloves and 50% off booties!

That's great, and thanks for this Garth. But do any of the gloves actually work?? I have about 8 pairs at home made of various "winter hardy" materials and NONE of them are terribly effective. The closest I've found are my neoprene gloves with thin wool gloves underneath. But even those were unable to withstand the wicked weather of late, including this mornings below zero temperatures. If anyone has found the perfect winter gloves, proven to work in pouring rain and negative temps, I'll pay full price!

I bought 'Gore' gortex/insulated gloves and they worked well in the cold weather today. The real test will be when it's near freezing and raining...

I highly recommend those instant hand-warmer packs. On rides below about 5 degrees and 2 hours or more, I put one in each of my shoes and gloves. It's pretty life-changing, actually. Now, they don't work that well in the wet, so I think the answer is a variety of weight gloves with a waterproof shell on top. I haven't found the perfect over layer yet and the Gore-Tex "Guaranteed to Keep You Dry!" winter gloves I got in my xmas stocking were soaked right through and useless on that Sunday ride through Sidney. I feel like I'm close, but not quite there yet.
