Saturday "discomfort-fest" • 6:00 or 7:00?

Post by Lund »

A few people have suggested changing the start time of the Saturday morning ride from 6:00 am to 7:00 am.

Beyond the promise of lighter skies, the prospect of an extra hour's sleep on a Saturday morning is appealing. On the flip side: it sure is nice, with a 6:00 start, to get 100 km under your belt before nine in the morning.

So, I'd like to invite some discussion on the idea.

IF YOU'RE A SATURDAY MORNING REGULAR (OR 'SEMI-REGULAR'): Are you for or against a 7:00 start, or are you fine either way? Would a time change affect your ability to participate?

IF YOU'VE BEEN CONSIDERING THE SATURDAY MORNING RIDE BUT HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO DRAG YOURSELF OUT OF BED FOR A 6:00 START: Would a time change make a difference? Would you show up if the ride started at 7:00 instead of 6:00?

Please weigh in ONLY IF YOU'RE SERIOUS about participating in the Saturday ride. If you clamour for a change and then fail to show, I will show up at your door at 5:30 the following Saturday morning, enthusiastically ringing your doorbell and unapologetically waking up your entire family and possibly some of your neighbours too.

Hi Steve,

Im sitting on the fence- both have their advantages- getting in 100ks before the rest of the house wakes up is great, but the prospect of cycling in something a little warmer and lighter also appeals.

Ill leave it to the masses to decide. Also dont want to take a strong position to avoid the 5h30 wake up call :)

When faced with vindictive doorbell-ringing at an ungodly hour, wishy-washiness is wise.

6am is far better as I can be home in time to spend the day with the family and still have put in 100+K

Rob H. said I should check the forum and come out for the discomfort-fest tomorrow. I got excited when I heard there was the potential for a 7:00 a.m. start. Much better to get dropped at 7:00 a.m. than 6:00, especially on a Saturday! It looks like the decision is 6, so I'm still on the fence. Good thing Steve doesn't know where I live!! Maybe see you tomorrow......

Au contraire. Getting dropped at 6 is preferable, as it gives your self-esteem an extra hour to rebound before you start your daily routine.

See you at 6, Princess.
