Tripleshot Thursday TT -THE HOUR RECORD

Post by Andrew »

Many of you are aware of the recent hour record breaking rides by Bradley Wiggins and others. We thought we would do our own TSC version of this next Thursday at Ring Road. Who is in? What are the bets on how far folks can ride in an hour? I think we will see something in the range of 41kms.

Chapeau to Trevor MacKenzie who is the Official TSC Ring Road ONE HOUR record holder at 41.1 kms. An impressive ride in cool conditions with some hurting wind. Peter Lawless and I were close in his tail at 40.9 and 41.05 respectively. The benchmark has been established, go and get it!

Wow! Inspiring rides! A couple of technical questions: did you all use TT bikes, helmets, etc, and how did you know when the hour was up, or rather, how do you get your distances to the nearest 10m when you are deep in the pain cave?

This club rocks!

Cheers Eric.
I was on a TT bike without an aero helmet or deep dish / disc wheels. I literally just counted myself down and started my Garmin, pedalled until it hit an hour, and stopped.
Peter and Andrew both had aero helmets, Peter with his full TT wheel set and Andrew with just a deep front wheel. We all started at different times approximately 15-20' apart.
Now that I've done it once I think I can improve with better pacing, utilizing my aero gear, and just a general knowledge of what I will need to endure.
There were a few others out taking on the hour, some on road bikes and some on TT bikes. Kudos to them as well.
It was tough, physically and mentally. One aspect I needed to deal with was staying focused. I was smoother and more consistent on laps where I was solo. Andrew and I found each other back and forth for a while and it totally messed with my mojo. A bit warmer and a bit less wind, more aero gear and a disc wheel, I'll be smoking next time.

I was surprised how cool it was to do the ride Eric. As Trev noted, I had a a TT bike, aero front and a skinsuit. It was cool to see four people at it when I got there and so many Tripleshotters doing the TTT. So many shout outs from the group made it that much more fun. It was pretty cool out there as noted. Ideal temperature is About 27 Celsius and it was only 14 today. The wind past the sub took quite a bite in the second half. I just rode from home, stopped, hit my lap button and went, no warm up. I was definitely going to take it easier and dialed it back at start and tried to hold 40.5 and ramped up from there. I left a bit in the tank. I think a warm evening, and a disc wheel would make a difference. Definitely knowing the feeling and pacing will make a difference for next time. My legs felt amazing post ride but got a bad deep ache in my legs through the afternoon! I may try again in next week for training more than distance. I suspect that some TT specialists may come and lay down a big number, easily over 45. We could do a more authentic try at The Hour at the track in a Saturday during open track time. Brad H offered to help facilitate. What a cool club. Kudos to all the riders!
