School League- TS hosting RR Tuesday at Western Speedway 4-6

Post by Lister Farrar »

Hi all:
I am organizing the school league event #2, the road race, at western speedway this Tuesday 4-6. The league committee has most of the arrangements covered, including registration, numbers, timing, results, prizes, podium, PA and insurance.

We run a brief drafting clinic for riders before, then short races with ride-along-coaches to remind riders to shoulder check and avoid overlapping, and dropping back with dropped riders to show them how sharing pulls works, but not trying not to substantially affect results.

We could use help with loaner road bikes and pack-fill coaches. Many of the kids only have mountain bikes, which aren't much fun on pavement. Any basic bike with STI shifters, flat pedals would be great. Maybe your winter bike or an underused family members bike. There is some risk to bikes, obviously, with new road riders, but we have had no falls the last few years.

Post here if you can come, and see you at Western Speedway!

Thanks

We could also use a motorcycle and driver to lead each race and carry an official to keep track of lapped riders. You might even get to do some hot laps with the motorcycle guys on the track after us...:)

David Brown is in as moto driver. Thanks David.

Still could use more loaner bikes and ride-along coaches. If you can, be at western at 4, ready to ride a few laps to introduce new riders to drafting, then ride along in the race to remind kids to not overlap, to shoulder check, and to watch the front. And if you're driving, bring your winter bike or other not-too-special bike for a kid to try.

Cheers
