see: http://islandsportsnews.net/ for a new try at collating local sports news. Its run by a guy named Charles La Vertu who says: "I have an internet outlet (islandsportsnews.net) for local Vancouver Island sports, and eventually will have a weekly newspaper to go with it. Both are/will be devoted to covering local sports including cycling."
Cycling appears as a Misc Sport on the drop down menu.
Charles is also keen to have people send him updates or stories by email to: editor@islandsportsnews.net

I think he is a Karate guy. I googled him and that seems the most likely "candidate".
(I wrote the "article" from Tuesday but he did the caption & photos in case anyone is curious). Ultimately I think we as sports folks in the community and cyclists in particular do a terrible job of letting the world at large know what's going on. For example we have 3 local race series (VCL, TT, Master's) plus off road stuff and cyclocross but I have to read stories in the TC about the NFL..... And when I do read about cycling it is more often than not as a "human interest" story not a sports story. Wouldnt it be great if we could change that?
I think we can do a much better job of publicizing what we do and maybe, just maybe, manage to get more folks, especially youth & women, involved in a sport that (presumably) we al think is teh dog's bollocks!
To that end this Charles guy seems keen to get stories from the sports community and I think we shoud oblige. What harm can it do? And if someone with some actual writing talent would get involved that would be AWESOMER! - just my view
