I ran at Thetis on the weekend, enjoying (again) the Lighthouse trail that Glenowyn pointed me to. I still marvel at the idea that people ride that thing. I can barely run it.
I've been running there for years and want to note that I'm seeing far more bike damage in the wet spots than I ever have in the past. I know the fire roads are open to bikes... but I'm a little worried that we're making enough of a mess that someone's going to get really cranky. Bikes skirting puddles and mud have doubled the width of trails in places and left nowhere for foot traffic.
May I suggest that if you're in there and come to something wet, you go straight through instead of churning up the remaining mud on your way around? It'll all dry out in the next month or so, but right now, it's very fragile.
I also don't know whether there's a way to collaborate with the CRD to drop a few truckloads of crushed rock into some of the low spots to protect them and the roadway...
Anyway, I love that park: it's knit into my very being (more literally than you might think, after a few wipeouts) and I know it's important to you, too. Let's take good care of it.

Yes, people have to be encouraged to embrace their inner 'cross rider. But hell, even Pete Lawless has a cross bike now. Be one with the mud. Each mud puddle is a chance to experiment with the beautiful dance of traction.
And to Jackson Pollock your bike.

Re: Bikes in Thetis
If anyone has garmin/strava/mapmyride links to the fire roads and (cross 'rideable') routes in and around Thetis-Munns etc, please post them?

Re: Bikes in Thetis
I rode my usual route around the outer trails of Thetis to Stewart Mtn which I had done last tuesday and I got frustrated with stuff runners had done to the multi use trails. Yesterday was the gut buster run, there was the usual chalk on the ground to mark what trails to use but than later logs had been hauled across to trail junctions to stop racers from taking the wrong trails. It is really frustrating to have left these still in place after the race. I then came up to one scary bit where a tire had been placed in the middle of a trail after a blind fast corner. I also think it is not bikers who have built up the log bridge where the creek passes over the trail. Building that bridge created a dam with a bigger puddle to cross. It is for all user groups to take ownership of the damage that occurs to the trails
I used a CRD Thetis Park map to find out which trails were multi use for bikes and which to stay away from. I don't know the link to give you

I've moved that tire 3 times in the past 2 weeks.
