Saturday May 10
Leave Discovery Coffee on Menzies near Michigan at 7 Sharp.
Longer this time. Third week of the build with 120 K. Next week, I rest!
Here is the plan for tomorrow (too bad I don't know how to link to a map!!) The difference from last week is E Sooke Rd, Gillespie, Sooke Rd, Kangaroo, Rocky Pt then Liberty. They put in a new and wider shoulder last year between on Sooke Rd between Gillespie and Kangaroo; good for single file cycling. I also think it might be a good idea to stop at the gas station off the Goose on the Old Island Highway near Six Mile Pub to refuel and use the washroom before heading into the Highlands.
Out to Rocky Pt Rd via the Goose, Lagoon, Metchosin Rd, William Head, Lombardi
L on Rocky Pt to E Sooke Rd, Gillespie
R on Sooke Rd
R on Kangaroo
R on Rocky Pt
L on Liberty to Kangaroo
L on Kangaroo R on Lindholm
To Glen Lake Rd via Happy Valley
Straight to Allouette
Langford Lake
Langford Pkwy
L on Memorial
Atkins/Burnside
R on Prospect
R on Munn Durrance Willis
L on Wallace
R on Garden Gate (before Benvenuto)
R on Benvenuto
R on W Saanich
Left on Old W Saanich
R on Sparton
Prospect Lk Rd
L on Burnside
Find the Goose and the nearest Coffee Shop.

What time do you think you'll be done Barton?
Re: Saturday May 10
This is madness.
Barton, my friend, I took the liberty of assuming you don't know left from right and tried to follow the described route.
Looks more like 128, Disco-to-Fol Epi, by this route.

How long? If we were doing 30 km/h, about 4:26. But, please, God, we won't be doing 30. At 26.5 (allowing for climbing), 4:40 rolling. Add in stops, and you won't be back in Victoria until well after noon.

You're also leaving out the four or five flats endemic to any group ride involving someone-who-shan't-be-named who's known to patch his tubes four or five times!

Re: Saturday May 10
Last week we were back shortly after 11. We don't stop much. Well, us slower folks don't stop much. When the last rider reaches the top of a hill, we roll right along, catching our breath down the backside of the hill. Otherwise, with so many hills, we would be out there till mid afternoon! Kate, I haven't looked at the map you sent yet but the last two rides I measured on gmaps turned out to be fairly accurate so we may want to cut off the section up Wallace to Benvenuto. I do not want to take us much over 120 but I definitely want to hit 120 before coffee!
We had one flat the week before and none last week. I have new tubes in my repair kit!
Hope to see you out there tomorrow. If you are into early morning coffee, Disco opens at 6:30.
Remember good nutrition and fluids! And maybe your most padded cycle shorts!
Barton.

I only survived the first half, after which Steve TT'ed (i.e. Totally Towed) me all the way back to town, even stopping to buy me a coffee along the way.

Friggin' Hilarious, John! I will always think of TT in a whole new light and chuckle every time!
Well ridden everyone! 14 of us started out. 5 silly souls finished. We kept things together as best we could considering how very hilly this was and the wide range of strength and skill. Simon, for someone who appears to have hibernated all winter you sure zipped up those hills! John and Mark, way to hang in there. Having not done this Saturday silliness until today you guys did great!
So, riding time was 4:59 with a distance of 125 K and an elevation gain of 1,990 m. Sig, Chris M, Peter (the Shorter, not the Lawyer!) Barbara (Last Name? Not Physio Barb!) and I made it to coffee shortly after 12.
Rolf, not a single flat! And, not a single bonk either! Fantastic ride everyone! Now to rest. No hills or speed for me this week. Next Saturday will be an easy 80 followed by 100, 120 and 140 the following Saturdays. So, if you are looking to build some distance into your week, this might do it!
Question, How do I get my garmin info onto Strava?
Barton.

Yes great ride by all, I still keep smiling about the two red necks in the pick up truck.
Any way Barton do you have your Garmin hooked up to your computer if so all you should need to do is click on upload at the top right of your Strava page.
Call me if you wish 250-881-7677
Cheers Mark

Thanks Barton, that was a most memorable ride! Love the route and love how the ride was able to service all skill levels, how very Tripleshot!
