New crankset.

Post by jj12 »

I'm buying a crankset off of chain reaction and I'm not sure what gears I have, I don't want to purchase the wrong size or ratio. Any one who knows gears please enlighten me :-)

3 things to consider when purchasing a crankset:
1) Gearing: the # of teeth should be printed on your chainrings. Most likely 53 outer ring + 39 inner ring or 50 outer ring + 34 inner ring.
2) Crankarm length: the length should be printed on the inside of your crankarm near the pedal thread. Probably between 170mm and 175mm.
3) Bottom bracket type: If you are switching Shimano for Shimano then you should be good to go. If not, you need to make sure your new crankset is compatible with your current BB: SRAM GXP, BB30, etc.

Hope that helps. BTW If you are looking for a BB30 crankset, I have one I get to get rid of... I also have a brand new unused Shimano Ultegra 6800 bottom bracket that needs a good home.

Cool. Don't forget to make sure the bottom bracket type is compatible.
