We had an, um, contentious B ride on Tuesday.
I think we'll get more out of our "off" laps if people make a deliberate effort to regroup in the space between the Magical Mailbox and the intersection of Cedar Hill X and Cadboro Bay Road. By the time we've made that right turn, the group should be re-assembled and ready to work together.
I find myself surprised by how long it takes to coast down from eyeball-bleeding pace and yet get enough oxygen going that I can catch up with the leaders again. Before you head off for the next round, please gather your wits, have a good look around, and consider using that nice huge wide road to go back and collect your friends.
Because, after all, this is a group ride - and except for those specific times when we are *trying* to beat the daylights out of each other, we ride with and for a group.
In other news, that B group was *way* too big. Thanks to Jim Pauly for exerting leadership and breaking us in half up on the box. I know how powerful the Lemming Effect is when riders start streaming out of Pareto, but if there are more than about twelve men and women already in front of you, and more than four or so behind? STOP and WAIT and be the person who cleverly assembled a fun, safe, agile group that is less of a traffic hazard.
Here endeth the rant.
