snow ride on friday (dec 6th)

Post by chrisb »

I haven't been in the group long enough to know what happens in the winter - given the current state of snow (as of midday Thursday) is there going to actually be a ride on Friday morning?
If so, any modifications recommended to my bike to assist with current conditions?

Hi Christian...if you add a plow to your front wheel we'll let you pull the whole way.

Seriously though, the cold will be the big issue tomorrow. While no significant snow accumulation is predicted, Environment Canada is calling for the wind chill of -15C. I can't speak for anyone else, but I'll be sleeping in.

That said, there's no "official" mechanism by which we cancel rides. If people feel like showing up, then the ride goes ahead as usual. I recall one day last winter when 6 of us showed up, decided that we were all crazy for having come out, and then pedaled to the Starbucks at Fort & Foul Bay before going home. On another particularly icy morning, only Hugh and I arrived and then decided to just leave and go home.

Ride safe!

I went out this morning as things looked pretty clean and dry here in south Fairfield.
It was a lonely ride (n=1), and a tad chilly so I just rode a few times back and forth along the Dallas road waterfront. I didn't encounter any ice until I came to Beacon Hill Park, you know, the west side where the tradespeople park their trucks along the park--it was like the city had sprayed the road with water to create a skating rink. Note to file: don't go through the park today unless you're on skates!

I had wondered whether anyone would be that brave. For about 30 seconds at 5:30 this morning. Then I went back to sleep.

Looked OK later in the morning for a very casual commute, but I am glad i didn't go out in the dark. Kudos, Alan. By the powers vested in me by nobody, I hereby award you 253 Winter Suffering Points.
