Tripleshot #1 & #3!
I'm not sure how accurate my report will be, everybody seems to have a different memories of the race.
The race started with about 12 guys and 5 girls in B, including three Tripleshotters - JohnT, JoeG and me. It started at a fairly easy pace. Alex Coates attacked early and stayed away for a few laps, JohnT and another IRC girl bridged up. They were caught, there were a few other attacks but nothing stuck. It wasn't like the last Newton Heights which was constant attacks. With 5 laps to go, nobody wanted to work, so I attacked on the downhill and opened a pretty big gap. With 2 laps to go, Steve Lund bridged up to me and dragged JohnT most of the way across. Steve wouldn't go to the front, so I sat up with 1 lap to go to recover. JOhn got within 15 meters of us or so. We played cat and mouse up the final climb, the sprint didn't start until well around the corner. I attacked on the last little climb before the finish, Steve was with me the whole way, but couldn't get past me. Victory. John was 3rd just behind us. Not sure how Joe did.

Newton Heights June 24: A good evening for Triple Shot Cycling.
And, it looks like I'm going to have to type faster in the future - the ending has been given away!
I haven’t been out for several weeks but I gather attendance has been down. This evening things improved to the extent that A’s and B’s didn’t have to run together. About 10 A’s and perhaps 20 in the B group, including about five women. The start was great for those of us who had little opportunity to warm up. They let the B group go seconds after the A’s, which meant that we had to ride slowly for a while to let them get away. Triple Shot was represented by Joe, Roland and I, all in team kit. The three of us ran near the front for the first four laps with regulars Casey Rider and Steve Lund close by. There were quite a few strong women, two in particular did more than their fare share of leading. I’ll get back to that in a minute. Great sportsmanship was shown by Steve L. when he pushed Casey R. for several peddle strokes after Casey’s chain came off at the base of the climb. This kept Casey in position and didn’t disrupt the race. It certainly could have, as they were in the top four at the time.
Joe and I found ourselves leading on a few occassions early in the race, but the pace wasn’t so fast. At about lap eight one of the women in red started to get away. Eventually another woman (riding a Berg) gave chase. [I’ll look up their names when the results are posted – they were both very strong]. Not bad – the B men being dragged around by the women with yours truly positioned …… well, you know where.
Remarkably, Berg woman and I gapped the field while chasing the woman in red (I’ll post this again with real names inserted appropriately). As we caught her (I did help here even though I wasn’t really in that race) the chase group caught us. At this point, Roland jumped. We’re now at about lap 10 of 15.
It was a great time to make a run for it. Two fairly tired women at the head of the pack and a chase group that was ready for a rest having caught me and my double-X friends (two X chromosomes for you non biologists). Off goes Roland on a downhill sprint and there’s me thinking – slow the pack and let Roland get away. It worked well. He was out of sight within about 20 seconds. At this point the pack had been reduced in number and I was content to sit in. But Steve L. wasn’t going to conceed the race with three laps remaining. He made a run for Roland, who had realized his jump was a good one and was working hard, and I jumped on. I sat on Steve’s wheel for two laps – going into the bell lap he got away on the climb, but by now I felt/hoped the damage had been done.
Steve caught Roland and I trailed them about 30 m behind. The rest of the B group was back there. No doubt the gap was coming down while I rode alone, but I was just out of reach and placed third.
What happened at the front? Neither Steve nor Roland wanted to lead the last lap – their games almost put me back in the hunt. Side by side until the sprint started in earnest with about 20 meters to go ….. Roland takes it! His second Newton Heights win of the season. Wear your kit with ride everyone!

Thanks for the race reports you guys. I do appreciate the play by play - always makes me wish I was there. Congrats to both of you. John for making such a great show after being away for 2 weeks and Roland for the second win of the season. TSC is awesome. Makes me feel better about my Ogden Point burn knowing I'm chasing after you two.
Cheers,
Eric
See you Friday

Kudos to all three tripleshotters (that is a bit of extra fun THREE racers were from TRIPLEshot!) last night. I also see that with the Season almost done (on the road) we hold 3 of the top 5 spots!!!!
WOW - what an impact we are having on the local scene. Welll done everyone and especially the guys suffering their way to the big points!

Crazy graphs, Roland! Cool to see the inverse relationship between speed and heart rate in the last 4 laps or so. Graphical evidence that you didn't leave anything on the table!
Guess the guys are living up to the Champion Systems website description of us asTHREE racers were from TRIPLEshot!
