Cyclocross season is nearly here!

Post by Lister Farrar »

Embrace your muddy side; it's almost cross season!

Cross club Wednesday nighters start next week, exact time tba. But there's exciting news! There will be a b race first, so you don't need to feel like a Volkswagen on the autobahn. The fast folks have always been very polite passing, but it's just getting too big. $20 for the series. License and waiver required.

Entry/waiver form coming shortly, must be submitted electronically (to capture data without rekeying), and both electronically and hard copy for u19 with parents signature.

Cross on the Rock
The schedules been out for a while, but here's the link again. http://www.crossontherock.com/
Cumberland: Coal Cross: Sept 29
Victoria: Binab Property Group GP: Oct 14
Port Alberni: Farm Bill's Cattle X-ing: Oct 20
Ladysmith: Crosstoberfest: Oct 27
Nanaimo: MIVA Cross: Nov 9
Nanaimo: Kona Kup: Nov 10 (provincial championships, races by age group vs ability group)
Victoria: Ronde Van Hogwarts: Nov 24

With apologies to John Gillespie MacGee. As McGee once said, 'a little trifle' for the season:

"High Bike"

Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
And pranced the hurdles on laughter-silvered heels;
Cloudward I’ve climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
of tire-split turf, — and passed a hundred wheels
You have not dreamed of — wheeled and soared and swung
Jamming in hypoxic lines. Hammering there,
I’ve chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through roadless halls of dare....

Up, up the long, delirious, oozing mud
I’ve topped the wind-swept climbs with easy grace.
Heeding ne'er cramps nor pounding blood —
And, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod
The untrespassed sanctity of the race,
- Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.

Anyone want to do some cross practices? :)

A tidbit for you lest you think the mudsport unbecoming of a roadie: Did you know Peter Sagan and Marianne Vos, two of the world's top roadies, have both been worlds cyclocross medalists?
