Good Friday - THE NEW & IMPROVED VERSION

Post by John D »

Hi all...after consulting with Peter and Ritchie this morning, I'd like to propose the following revised schedule for the coming Friday.

1. The TSC Friday ride will leave at 06:00, as per usual. After Beacon Hill laps, we will head back (hopefully by 07:15) to Fairfield Starbucks.

2. After a quick caffeine fix, those who are interested can depart at 7:30(ish) from Fairfield Starbucks for a regular TSC Sunday-ride. Alternatively, you can skip the 6:00 Friday ride and just meet us at Fairfield Bucky's.

3. But wait there's more! If you still feel the need for more fun/pain/penance, feel free to turn also right off West Saanich onto Willis Point with the "TSC Sardines" for some extra kms in the Highlands.

So come out and join us for Options 1, 2, 3, or all of the above!

Cheers,
J.

P.S. A total aside, but despite 12 years of Catholic schooling, I remain puzzled by what exactly what made "Good Friday" a particularly "good" Friday for the lead character.

Such puzzlement is no longer permissible in times of the oracle known as Wikipedia. Like most things biblical, there is disagreement:
The etymology of the term "good" in the context of Good Friday is contested. Some sources claim it is from the senses pious, holy of the word "good"...
From the OED definition 8c for "good":
...of a day or season observed as holy by the church. good tide: (a) Christmas; (b) Shrove Tuesday. Cf. Good Friday n. Good Wednesday the Wednesday before Easter.

1471 in T. Thomson Acts Lords Auditors (1839) 16/1 Onne gude Wednisday in passioun woulk.
a1475 Liber Cocorum (Sloane) (1862) 37 (heading) Fro Martyn messe to gode tyde evyne.
1547 W. Salesbury Dict. Eng. & Welsh, Ynyd..shrovetide, Good tyde.
1620 Hist. Frier Rush sig. B2v, Vpon a good night, all the whole Convent assembled together in the Quier.
[1820 R. Wilbraham Attempt Gloss. Cheshire, Guttit..Shrovetide.]
1893 R. O. Heslop Northumberland Words, Good Wednesday.
...while others contend that it is a corruption of "God Friday".
I hope to be there, singing in the Quier, at Pareto at 6.

I'll blame it on the bike.
