What about the chili? Tell us about the chili, Mark. Do all finishers get chili, or just the first 20 or something? Do they have chili hand-ups at each control?
Is it chili con carne? Or just beans? I don't think I'd want to suffer through 200K for lowly legumes alone...

Barring torrential rain, I'll be there! Sounds like a lot of fun.

Highly recommended. I did my first 200 last fall, ride at your own pace, good time had by all. Here is a link to my ride report. Slow and steady wins the race! http://www.randonneurs.bc.ca/newsletter ... epard.html
You can't beat the price either - $25 gets you your membership for the year plus ride fee. There are lots of other events planned for the island as well, including the Victoria Populaire March 24th - 50 or 100k, a number of 200ks - April 6, May 20, June 1st, June 22nd, and Sept 15th. Now if you think that is way to easy you could always sign up for hell week, which includes a 200,300,400 and 600k in the span of 7 days. Mark Ford is the man to talk to.

I can't speak to the quality of the chili, but I can tell you that despite being a 200km ride, it's hard not to gain weight on these rando rides. The people I rode with last time brought along ham and cheese sandwiches (including one for me) and there were home-made baked goods on offer at each of the several control stations. Beats the heck out of energy gels!
You should join us...

Mmm, you had me at "cheese." Gotta check with my race director. Hopefully it won't matter that I haven't exceeded 65K in over a year and I'm only riding regularly about once a week.

Don't over-think it...it's just a friendly day of riding your bike and eating baked goods.

From the ride organize, here is the ride incentive you've been waiting for.
The ride will start and finish at our house and there will be ample goodies for people to indulge in once they have finished the ride including Chili and cornbread.
This will also be people’s fist opportunity to earn the 2013 200 km pin.
What more could you ask for?
To-date eleven riders are registered, so there will plenty of company on the ride.

Here is the link. Good idea to pre-register even if you are not 100% sure you will be riding. It allows the organizer to arrange the controls and of course how much chili to make.
