Wayfinding with Glenowyn

Post by katew »

What *is* it about going out with Glenowyn? She is so danged nice and still outings with her seem to routinely end in tears.

Even, I tell you, even when she is so crippled that she isn't allowed to ride a bike. Now, I take full responsibility for this little adventure's challenges, as I'm the one who said, "Dammit, the maps *say* there's a fire road or trail up the east side of Fizzle Lake and I want to find it!"

Ha.

Several of the really bold lines indicated on both Open Cycle Map *and* Google Maps are fantasies, fire-road deliberately neglected to the point of near impassability. But we soldiered onward, looking for right-of-way that has completely evaporated, blundering into creeks and thickets, and jumping barbed-wire fences. Twice. (my dog was not impressed.)

I'm sorry to say that the trail network east of the CRD's official trails is sketchy at best until you get much closer to Stewart Mountain.
