Bad timing

Post by JohnT »

It seems that two crews were on their way to repair the hole I fell into on the very morning I hit it (report from Municiple lawyers below). Klein Quantum Race RIP. Ridley Damocles debutes in the AM if it doesn't rain.

From what I have learned, a motorist encountered this pothole on the night of Tuesday, January 6 and called the Saanich dispatch at 10:00 pm. Saanich called Oak Bay dispatch shortly thereafter. Both Saanich and Oak Bay have the same policy with regard to responding to afterhours reports of potholes. Specifically, potholes are not considered a urgent response item, and so, rather than summoning on-call staff to work overtime, a crew is dispatched the first thing the next morning to inspect and deal with the pothole. Because both Saanich and Oak Bay were called, and because the pothole was right near the border between the two municipalities, both dispatched a crew at around 8:00 am when the two public works yards opened up. However, Saanich had a shorter commute to pick up cold mix to patch the hole, so it arrived first at approximately 8:20 am. Even though the pothole was on the Oak Bay side, Saanich apparently decided that to complete repairs since it was already there. The Oak Bay crew arrived shortly thereafter and found the repair already done, so it took the opportunity to fill some other minor road defects in the area.
