Cycling Snow Day?
Hello All,
My apologies if this is the wrong forum, I was a new rider last Fall so still have some rookie questions. I want to get back into Triple Shot, curious if the tomorrows (Tuesday) ride will be canceled due to the snow conditions? Furthermore if you could clarify that the registration is done though CCN?
Thanks!!!
Mike

Hey Mike,
Ride planning is probably where you want to post questions about whether or not a ride is on, but there aren't any strict rules. Just more likely to get a reply there I think.
We typically don't cancel rides ahead of time. Set your alarm for 5:30 am and then look out the window. Forecasts help, but it's still hard to know (-6 can be fine, -1 can be dangerous depending on rain, dew point, Gavin, etc.).
I'd go back to bed if I saw snow on the road, but even when it's bad in some neighbourhoods, we can sometimes find a place (e.g., UVic Ring Road or waterfront between the marina and downtown) to ride.
Cheers,
JohnT

+1 on John's post. (Sorry Gav, I laughed. felt guilty right away though. )
Sometimes the rides are cancelled early or mid-ride. One icy day some people fell and took the bus home. Another, we wobbled 500 metres to starbucks Fort and Foul Bay and found a better way.
This am at 6, Brenna, Evan, Alex, Duncan and Luke Koolman did their first interval at UVic before the snow got too heavy and they couldn't see Headed home then. No slipping though.
Any time you make it to the starting point, you get gloating points. Double when the weather's bad. Triple if you actually ride. Quadruple if you are smart enough to go home before you fall.

And really, even if there's snow, go for a cx rider and think of the snow as really clean mud.
I've got an obnoxious helmet. It's green.

Pretty good advice from a guy who's missed the last, what 6 workouts? And went home when we rode on Friday and it was rideable?DavidB wrote:And really, even if there's snow, go for a cx rider and think of the snow as really clean mud.
So, you're leading the cross mission tomorrow am? Let me know and I'll bring my cross tires.

Hello All
Thanks for the clarification... Weather wise it is not looking good, but will wake up either way... Curious about the story behind Gavin now!

Oh, Lister.
Did you have to wind him up?
Guess who came a-pounding on my front door at 0610, smug as anything, because only he, Paul, and [someone] turned up at Pareto, and hey, watch him do this donut in the driveway!!!!
Duuuude.
I sent him back to his father's house with orders to ride over Beacon Hill on the way.
Kate, who fired up a Sufferfest Video instead.

Sorry Kate. (Not!) I think I'm learning what motivates David; be out front, on the edge, be different. Routine, not so much.
I went to bed early (after a SufferFest interval workout*) and missed his text he was coming. Now I have a hole in my points tally to dig out of.
* with Brenna and Duncan, and Eric S as our sound man and host in his classroom. Very fun by the way. We did our own workout, but the music and footage still worked to get the mojo going for getting into the pain cave. Both Duncan and Brenna up to near 200 beats a minute. Me, a more age-appropriate 155-165.
Note to self: how many weirdo workouts can I dream up for David so he doesn't notice he's riding 4X a week, getting fit, and holy-cow-all-of-a-sudden-he's-in-the-mix next season.
How about extrinsic motivation? A dozen doughnuts for getting to 80 workouts by April 1? Nope, some weeks that might actually be cutting back his junk food. Got it: a visit from Ryder Hesjedal. Now, just have to figure out how to do that. D'ya think Ryder'll come back from Europe for that?
