How about a long ride sometime? Eg 160 km at Easter?

Post by Lister Farrar »

Dylan and I were talking about a long ride sometime. Here's a route that would be about 160 km. Essentially it's dowtown, Sooke, Highlands, Lands End, Sydney, then waterfront back to downtown. Perhaps lunch in Langford at Smokin' Bones, or in Sidney?

Maybe Easter weekend?

I am also in - no one tell Cyndi  - I will just say that we did our normal ride but had 73 flat tyres and might have become disoriented from the emission of CO2 gas from inflating those tyres

Count me in too.
But speaking of Easter, which makes me think of rabbits, I just want to remind the rest of the team that today on our ride I ran over a rabbit. He zigged, then zagged and I tried to miss him but ended up going over him with my front wheel. He felt like a furry little speedbump. I think the fact that I stayed upright relieves me from enduring any further crash jokes (at least for now). The worst part was explaining it to the kids--that there will be no Easter this year as I maimed (probably fatally) the Easter Bunny. Wascally wabbits!

Oops. I guess I shouldn't have sent her that note asking her to make the lunches and drive the support vehicle? I did say you said to ask.

If you need a place to sleep, there's a couch in the office.:)

Anyway, she would have been able to tell because you stopped riding in your usual prep phase.

Better over, than him going through. Or there might not be any more Easters or Christmas' except with their new 'Dad' when your wife remarries.

Another good reason to ride 36 spoke wheels. On 36's, spokes are 11.45 mm closer together than the average size of a rabbit skull. :)

Or sharpen the spokes of your low spoke count wheels.

Had a couple thoughts about stop points: How about Gillespie rd. variety store, then Brentwood Bay Inn (lunch on the deck, sun should be around by then), then coffee in Sydney (triple shot), then whatever bar is nearest when our legs give out? BBQ with families so we can tell war stories without appearing to neglect them any further?

Easter, etc

John--according to your avatar, you don't have a front wheel--unlike the bike shown. Now that is what I call fork rake. Count me in for Easter-sounds like a new tradition. The Easter 100??

Depending on the day we choose, the 'Crucifixion 100', or the 'Resurrection 100'?

'Bad Friday'?

or 'Who died for your sins? (Half-wheelers repent!)'?

Someone stop me.

I went back to check on the wabbitt - it was happily hopping in large happy face arcs through the golf greens. quite a sight.
this ride you speak - is it over two days or three?

I start this week on the next big art project that will go big in NY.

Easter's out for me now; Joanna is helping organize a gala at Mt Washington, so I have to be the escort...and may be forced to do some spring skiing.

Feel free to go without me (sniff  ) but just in case it's also bad for others, how about Sunday April 19th?

I am keen on a big ride on Easter Monday but why not do both :D

For the 19th I think we should plan the ride so that we arrive in Sooke at 10:15am (the Sooke River 10k starts at 11:00 and is the final race for the Island Road Race Series)

Anyone else in for this jaunt through Sooke? 8)
