Moving Coffee this Tuesday Morning? (Oct 25)

Post by Josh.E »

Hi Everybody

My buddy Logan, owner of Discovery Coffee, has invited us to move our morning coffee over to his new James Bay location. It is on Menzies St, on the corner of Michigan.
I'm planning on heading over there post ride tomorrow morning instead of the Moka House. Anybody want to join me?

Josh

Does he have a glove dryer over a heat source?

don't think so.

He does, however, have far better coffee.

I think few would argue that when it comes to the coffee itself, Discovery > Moka House. :P

But do we still have a jersey sponsorship deal with Moka House? Does that matter, Jeff George? And can Discovery regularly and efficiently pull discounted Americanos for 20+ wet, dirty and loud cyclists? Does Discovery have breakfast comestibles that combine egg, cheese and pork products?

I think if we don't figure it out as a group we run the risk of a coffee-schism damaging our precious club unity. :)

This makes for an interesting situation. I too have noticed the new Discovery coffee on Michigan and Menzies and the thought has crossed my mind about switching or at least heading over there for coffee #2 on my Friday off days. The problem is sponsorship, loyalty and concensus.
I have no doubt they make better coffee. The espresso and machiato woulld be divine I am sure. But as a group, what is the best move?

Barton.

A couple of quick points:

1. Sponsorship is run throgh the Club's Executive and at present the kingpin in charge is Geoff Wong. Everything sponsor related goes to Geoff Wong, or #38 as I know him.

2. I am happy to join Josh at Discovery tomorrow. A new spot to try - what is bad about that? Its not like we dont go to Moka House on Cook St on Wednesdays (Farm Team) and when its really horrible in winter. We also start at Starbucks on a Sunday and finish at Fantastico on weekends. I like the deal we get at Shoal Point but am not a slave to it. Frankly I am more driven by location and suitability for 10-40 Cyclists at 7:15am than by anything else.

As far as sponsorship goes, there is nothing that obligates us to patronize Moka House over anyone else. Like any good retailer they've offered us discounted pricing based on the volume of coffee we buy. If Discovery or any other location became a regular spot, we could just ask them to do the same.

I'm in favour of trying the new spot and seeing if it works. How hard is it to drink better coffee? The only thing I would ask is that we make it clear at the beginning of the ride that we are going to a different location so that we can all join as a group following the A, B and C rides.

I'll give Logan a heads up that we'll be there tomorrow.
I'm be no means talking about committing to a permanent location switch. Just giving it a try tomorrow, seeing what we think.

Logan wanted me to say thanks to everyone for coming in this morning.
He said we're welcome back any time. He had actually set up the single long table just for us from the stage down so everyone could sit together, then the group of 8 cops came in just before us and snaked the spot.
Definitely not as well suited to a group as large as ours as shoal point, but it was sure nice to have a disco espresso instead of a moka house americano.
