Sophie and Brenna's photofinish. http://www.flickr.com/photos/biketowork ... otostream/

We saw this at maximum resolution and there really was only a pixel in it. Brenna lead a bit too much of the second last straight and despite having a gap thru the last corner, died just enough for Sophie to get her. You can see the longer image means she was moving slower than Sophie.

Successful race tho. Got gapped early and had to close while the two leaders were going away. Caught the group, and started the chase with Sophie, dropped the rest, and they held the second place rider to 6 seconds for several laps. Sophie had a bad patch in the middle where I think Brenna might have got away, but she didn't know who was behind, how strong, and whether they would close on Sophie and bring her back up to Brenna or not. Coach error not telling her.

I had an interesting chat with Erinne Willock after her win. She said last fall at a guest coaching session that her sprint was her weak spot, (she's known as a climber) and she advised the juniors to work on it, and they would get way more wins.

Sunday after the race she revealed that she had been doing more weights and power training over the winter than the past. And started thinking like a sprinter. Last year she jumped with almost a lap to go, and got second. This year she stayed fourth wheel until just before the last corner, when she jumped and got to the corner first, barely. But by timing it right, (and training) she had the power to stay in front to the line.

I thought it was interesting that even an Olympian and multi-year national team member could undertake to change a fairly fundamental ability. If climbers can sprint, could I become a climber?!
