Windsor Park Crit

Post by Roland »

Unfortunately a crash on the start finish straight, Matt & Lister hit the deck, as well as a few others I believe. Lister went of to hospital with apparently a broken colar bone. Does anybody have an updates?

My most sincere apologies to Lister and the other riders who went down with me. I take full responsibility with a minor error for position resulting in wheels touching and a pretty brutal crash. No matter how many people say "that's racing", I still feel extremely bad. So Lister, I wish you a clean and fast recovery! And Steve I owe you a jersey.

I didn't spend much time watching the race but I did catch the finish and Kevin had a great sprint for a solid second place. Sorry I didn't catch where everyone else finished but the talk was an all-in-all good result for TSC.

Hopefully my the damage to my bike is strictly cosmetic and I will be back out soon, otherwise I may only be out to cheer from the side lines.

Also if anyone happened to find a grey and green camelbak podium chill bottle let me know and I'll pick it up. Someone said it might have gone in Listers bike but I'm not certain...thanks!

Yes, a sad day for Lister and Matt. I think Kevin was also involved in the crash. I missed the crash but it happened right in front of my wife. She keeps picturing Lister flipping over Matt. Matt, of course you feel bad, because you're a nice guy. You can't beat yourself up though, this of course was an accident.

If Lister does need a plate to fix his collar-bone, I just hope they use silver-lugged steel and not that newfangled titanium.

Best wishes to Lister for a speedy recovery. As Lister is one of the main organizers of Bike to Work Week which begins soon, I hope the club can help him out where needed.

Our positive healing thoughts are with you Lister.

I'm sure Lister would accept filet brazing as well :-). I will say "that's racing!". Who hasn't come close or lightly touched a wheel in the heat of a race? A right of passage for you Matt. I thought we raced the race we set out to race and I was pleased with everyone out there. Great race guys!

I've always liked the expression, "its better to be lucky than good" Matt went down right in front of me. I happened in a flash. As I said to Matt, it happened to one of the pros in the Giro or Tour Of California last week. It happens. It sucks but it happens. Speedy recovery to Matt, Lister and anyone else. I actually hit Matt at speed and flat spotted my rear tire like F1 racing. My front rim was actually bent from the impact. Luckily, it is at a fine wheel specialist shop in town http://www.zedwheels.com/ZedWheels/Welcome.html already and will be repaired.

TS otherwise road a fantastic race. We had a plan, we were well organized and from my perspective had control of the pace as we needed it. I hung around the back for the first 10 laps getting help from each TS rider. As the laps progress I heard Peter say, "Kevin your too far back" so up to the front I went. I knew who to find :D The Moose is loose in Bs. There I stayed until the end just like Western Speedway. It was a few key efforts by everyone a key points. Brad lead out many laps, Gavin was as solid as Western Speedway and when he need some help at the end both Brad and Stephane lead us out. On the final lap Stephane, did monster pull, giving Gavin the reprieve he needed to string it out so there was very little pressure from behind. I made a mistake at the end. I was caught watching the winner cut inside Gavin and I with good pace in the last corner. I was so worried about getting punched in the throat for chasing break aways...I hesitated about 2 seconds. I then thought wait a minute this is the finnish! I should have jumped the moment I saw him enter the corner. Pretty sure I snagged 2nd. Regardless, stoked about 2nd place. Last year I was 5th in the Cs. Gavin was not in that race.

Great race by the team. At every point I looked and saw TS jerseys together. Awesome lead out. Stephane was amazing and Moose.... WOW!!! He hammered the crap out of people. It really looked like a team racing as a team for a purpose. AWESOME FREAKING WORK!! It also cannot be unsaid that "Big Jim" busted his TS arse and it was mucho cool to watch!

And big Kudos for Ryan and Flounder in the A race. Big efforts by Ryan and flounder stuck to the plan in his race and didnt move to the front for teh first half (even though I am sure it was killing him!!)

Then what about the C's! A couple of serious sandbaggers from Schwalbe didnt phase our crew. Good hard efforts by everyone and people were clearly thinking about where they were vs where they ought to be and making changes. Smooth hard rotations and some stellar attacks. Particularly impressive were Farisha, Brenna and Alex who were loooking cool and relaxed and doingtheir thing. Bad luck is all the kept Alex from finishing in the bunch. Well done all!

I arrived at Windsor Park a little late and was not even sure if I would be in time for the B race. Luckily I had just enough time to sign in, get my gear on, have a quick warm-up and have a little strategy talk with the team. Our plan was to try and control the race to our advantage and just get Kevin in a good position at the end. Everyone contributed to the race-plan and it worked out pretty much as we wanted with Kevin taking a close 2nd. Even though I finished well behind the main pack, it was still an exhilarating TEAM victory.
Of course, the exhilaration was mixed with concern and sadness for the crash and Lister's injury. I felt a brief buzz on my rear wheel and heard the crash right behind me. Best wishes to both Lister and Matt and anyone else for a full and speedy recovery.

i will leave it on the front porch; it's hidden from the street, so just come by whenever you want. If the dog is outside, he barks, but he's friendly. His name is Harry and he usually greets people who know his name.
