Can anyone help with Bike to Work Week?

Post by Lister Farrar »

hi all:

most of you know I'm doing a contract with bike to work week. it's been mostly sponsorship and planning up so far, but now it's shifting to the execution phase for the week of May 30 to Jne3. That means lots of running around picking up equipment and food, setting up the celebration stations (tents and tables, coffee, snacks) for the morning and evening commuter times, and hosting fellow cyclists and generally sharing our genius at discovering a better way to commute.

pete (truck), galen and geoff (driving and pickup) have already stepped up to pick up equipment tomorrow for the Commuter Challenge wednesday, , a promotional car-bike challenge event, finishing at starbucks, fort and blanshard, 7-9 am.

but now I'm reduced to a veritable one-arm paper hanger, so could use some help. plus it's fun and good networking. our board has several political types (councillor john luton, former mla david cubberly and other interesting folks from media, communications, (tc) who all work the stations, both the light manual labour and the hosting/schmoozing. just let us know what days and locations you can do,

The stations are different each day and spread over the city. the map and schedule is here:
http://biketowork.ca/files/images/Celeb ... 1b__2_.pdf

we set up about 45 minutes before the scheduled time, and finish loading trucks about 30 min after. it would be ideal to have you the entire time, but leaving early or coming late would help too. all the starbucks, Cobs bread and Share Organics fruit and vegetables you can eat, pl burgers at the final event.

since i might be out of action with the surgery for most of tomorrow, post here, but write me at lister@biketowork.ca, and copy the executive director, Frank Hudson Frank@biketowork.ca, so he can stop worrying that I'll let him down. i plan to be at each station, or at least one in every time slot.

ps you don't have to ride to the stations; in fact we can use drivers for pick up trucks too.

Lister...I work at UVic, so I'd be happy to help out with the morning event at the fountain on the 31st if you could use some more help.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery!

I will help at the BBQ, Selkirk trestle, on Friday. I will go straight after work, so should be there a bit before 3. Can stay as late as needed. Perhaps I could see if any of the Bike Team can come help too!

Thanks guys, this really helps.

We could use three more tomorrow morning, one at 6:15 for set-up, two for the operation 7:00 to 8:30.

Ops jobs include handing out Cob's treats ('one for me, one for you...'), chute marshal (making sure the competitors enter the chute; close to the finish line and PA interviews), and recycling supervision (actually just standing near the 2 recycling stations so folks use them properly: we have lots of containers and bags from reFUSE recycling. As chief gimpmeister, I'll probably be doing one of these.

Next week, the station that needs folks most is the Tuesday afternoon in Esquimalt Memorial park (across from the municipal hall). Set up at 3:00, station closes at 5:30, all packed up by 6:00.

Hi Glen: Did you send and email to marshga@biketowork.ca? She has the schedule and is slotting in people. I'm working whatever hours I can manage, but she's on top of it.

ack, was I that bad? I see the g is next to the h on the keyboard, so I blame pre-caffeine state. (another of the downsides of not riding).
